This car buried under snow represents being forgotten, the fear of being left behind. This car was left here and had snow piled up on it for days, a beautiful machine left to be forgotten. Humans experiencing mental health problems may fear being ignored, that one day when we die or go somewhere for some time, we will be left behind. This car is almost unrecognizable to people, making it feel forgotten under all that hinders its beauty. It sees the other vehicles, all brand new and washed, being taken care of, especially the truck next to it, wondering when its owner will return for it. All it can do is hope for someone to save it from being concealed and left to die finally.

This crab represents imprisonment; he is contained and spread apart, dead inside, literally and figuratively. He is trapped inside a small box that holds him in place. This is how some people who experience isolation may feel. They are claustrophobic about being alone and contained and unable to see the world. They think people won't appreciate them, so they close themselves in a box. They feel trapped, wanting to get out, but also filled with fear. They think they are laughing, especially amongst younger people who may be hasty towards them. They are contained in the box and feel that everyone can see them inside struggling and laugh at them because they are stuck. The fear of being made fun of and a laughing stock for their lack of social skills.

I took this photo in New York with my family on the long weekend. The rain adds a feeling of sadness, and the disrupted lens and image distort what is around the person. They are making everyone feel so different and alien-like. This is how a person with an anti-social and lonely personality would feel. Everyone is so different from them that everyone comes off as distorted and abstract. The distortion caused by the rain adds to the distinct feel of the image because we tend to see the world in one way but don't understand how others may see it. Someone with social anxiety may view everyone as different, scary, and alien-like. They feel that people are so different and dangerous when socializing with them.

This is a photo taken in the recent Montreal blackout. This photo represents a form of loneliness in being surrounded by darkness. The streets are empty, no lights and the sky is dark and gloomy. It gives a feeling of emptiness in such a mysterious way. The person in this image feels emptiness. The streets, which are so broad, make the scene feel so empty. The comfort only comes from being in the car, in your tiny space. This is how people with loneliness often feel comfortable in their own space. The outside world feels empty and outlandish to them. They don't know if anyone can connect with them. No lighting enhances the vast open feeling in this scene; they feel like it's a ghost town, and the whole world is on pause.

This photo represents loneliness, and the goose is the odd one out of the group. He's different from all of the ducks. In the picture, he is even distanced from them. This tells a similar story to the ugly ducking; he is separated from the group because he looks different. The duck wants to be a part of the group and scavenge with them, but he's so different and isn't similar to them. This represents our world, how people are always singled out for being different or having other interests. Animals, in a way, function like us. We believe that we always have to be surrounded by the "normal" or "standard," and we discriminate against anything different from us. We hate what is different and find comfort in what is similar.

Sarah Kane's play named "4.48 Psychosis" uses a form of chaos and severe language and structure to present a mental illness. The play is mostly centered around depression and confusion. The play introduces a disorder similar to schizophrenia, with voices talking down to the play's main character. Sarah can use literary techniques to present her ideas uniquely, such as a volatile play which branches off to repeated phrases and sentence fragments. It's able to portray a chaotic situation with repetitive info to seem as if the person is stressing and collapsing mentally but also maintains a story and structure. She can construct a "good-made play" because she still follows in an orderly fashion throughout her storytelling. She starts with an opening scene that introduces us to the subject and provides clear points with dialogue addressing the situation through voices and monologues. Sarah is able to connect with Jacobeans revenge tragedy because of the overall structure of it representing cruelty and human nature and intense themes. There's both a sense of madness in them. For T.S Eliot's "The Wasteland", follows a similar chaotic and fragmented world of despair. Even the title represents a sad chaotic world. Overall, Sarah is able to capture a chaotic language whilst also maintaining a structured story. These two contradict each other but she is able to blend them pretty well in her play. She captures the idea of mental illness and how chaotic someone's mind and thoughts can be by showing them through monologue and voices. I feel that she is able to show a relationship between the classic saying of "order and chaos" and she is able to implement these two contrary themes in a productive way. She explores a unique way of structuring a play but also maintains the focus and attention to a well structured play and not stemming far from the basics. The order and chaos is a perfectly example of how someone with mental illness can struggle with these two sides by struggling to gather their thoughts and guide them but also wanting to maintain their mental health but struggling to do so. She is able to represent and signify the theme further and get her point across on mental illness because she implements parts of the subject into her story telling technique.

This is my favorite photograph by Woodman. This image can be odd and different from other photographs but also has a seeable message. The black and white filter adds so much realism to the photography portrayed in a dark, scary, abandoned warehouse. It has more depth in the meaning because even though it's a very dark place, the woman is dancing and twirling with angel wings above her. This gives a sense of comfort when focusing on the subject rather than the objects around her. She can contrast these two opposite feelings of helplessness and sheltered. The woman subject doesn't acknowledge the setting around her but rather her emotions and feelings. This image can connect to me because it portrays the idea that when someone goes through tough times or scary moments and emotions, we must rejoice in life's gift and be happy and content. This may add significance to the angel portrayal as it connects with the biblical telling's of staying strong in faith despite evil tempting you. She rejoices and enjoys dancing because it makes her feel despite her maybe being in a scary place like this. An average person would be very fearful, so this image stood out because it is out of the ordinary. It presents a generally well, taught motive and lecture but in such an eerie sense where at first, you'd think it means something completely different due to the scary contrast of light and darkness. This photograph fascinated me because, as a Christian, I was intrigued by the angel portrayal of the women and their messages. I wondered why a beautiful angel would be in such a dark place. There are many contrasts and blended opposites in this image, such as when exploring further, the women represent beauty, and the building around her represents an ugliness and distasteful color.

My image represents a combination of good and evil. The angel represents holiness vs the darkness that surrounds her. To show the instability in this photo, I took the photo at an odd rotated angle to give a sense of uneasiness. I also tried to center it so it looks like the angle is almost straight, but not because this gives an idea of a battle between the two sides. The angel's brightness causes attention to be drawn to her, which is the main subject. I decided to use a monochromatic filter to represent two distinct sides. I got inspiration from the biblical style of darkness in light, so I chose my subject to be an angel, as I feel this best suits the idea I was going for. I added some dark spots on the wings and bottom of the angel's dress to demonstrate the power of prayer according to biblical theory, as it's commonly seen as a way to fight evil, so I increased the brightness around her hands. I took it in front of a mirror to give a 3D perception of the photo to show that there is darkness EVERYWHERE, even in front of the angel, which is not visible from the shot without the mirror. This enhances the idea of pure darkness around the subject.

First question: Why did you pick BMF? Initially, it is supposed to be part of my schedule to obtain my extra credits, but it seems pretty interesting. I like anything art related and am open to exploring more about different types of arts and studying them, even if it is English. A term I think would best suit the definition of art is creativity because art is about expressing a story, feeling, or idea and being creative about it. Everyone has their style and wants to show an idea or portrayal of something to an audience, whether fiction or non-fiction. Art is something that has no restrictions and has so many different branches. I hope to gain more knowledge about art, technical writing documentation, and art-related skills.
