Now that Waid’s back at DC are you brave enough to share what it was he said to you about working together on Superman years ago? Always wanted to know. I’d rather see you and Hickman do Superman together, a joint with Waid would inevitably lean too retro for your tastes I suspect.

SO, to be clear: What Mark said was less about Superman specifically and more about working at DC, which at the time I had just signed onto exclusively. Suffice to say that it had to do with somebody who worked there at the time and who no longer works there now.
Anyway, I don’t want to make more of it than it was. Mark just made a funny comment when we were talking about working together again on something more substantial. We’ve traded e-mails over the years and I finally just met him in person this past fall but we’ve never talked any further about what we might do beyond shrugging at each other and muttering “Superman?”. I don’t know! I get the feeling that Mark’s another one of those guys that gets slapped with the retro rap simply because he’s working with a lot of these characters that have been around for 50-60 years. I’m sure if we were going to do something we could find a way to make it feel a little fresher than all that.
And I like Jonathan too! I haven’t seen him in a while but I’m curious about the Ultimate Spider-Man book that just dropped. It’s on my never-ending Gotta Read list.
