âNarcissaâs fine,â said Lucius, mouth twisting up into a strange sort of smile - the kind that said he really didnât want to smile, but found himself doing so anyways. It was just Evan, anyways. He didnât feel the need to be that detached alpha male with his wifeâs cousin. âMarriage is, well, fine. Better than I thought itâd be.â He swirled his drink, staring into the deep red. For a second, he felt like a fidgeting schoolboy. âHave you got any plans to settle down, then? Or are you planning on staying single?â
âIâm glad itâs not completely crushed you as a person,â Evan joked, the corners of his mouth twisting up as he let out a soft laugh. He was pleased that his cousin had been matched with a man like Lucius; he seemed to have everything under control and didnât seem to completely loathe his wife. âFor now, my father and I have a deal. Iâm free to stay single as long as I play my role during this... war. Plus, thereâs no one really out there for me that Iâd be willing to make a deal with.â
ilona-burke:
âIâm glad to hear that Iâm not the only one here this evening that isnât a fan.â Ilona nodded in agreement. Sure, she wasnât a fan of any Quidditch team, or the sport at all for that matter, but it was nice to be talking to someone who wasnât cooing over the Puddlemere players.Â
âSo tell me, in your observations, have you found anything worth noting? Perhaps we could trade notes on what weâve seen.â
âBusiness talk?â he asked, his gaze shifting across the crowds. âIâve been trying to linger by the Minister of Magic but so far the conversation has been rather dull and Quidditch related.â Evan turned back to Ilona with a very small smile. He wondered how long this event would go on for or how long people would want to drag on the celebrations. People seemed to like to party even during war. âItâs not as entertaining as I first thought it would be.â
mxrlxnxmckxnnon:
âOf course,â Marlene shrugged as if this should have been obvious. She thought it might be, considering she was at the party at all. Although, she knew would have never turned down any event that combined quidditch and booze. It could have been a party thrown by the Banchory Bangers after their next lost and, while not exactly honoured by an invite, she still would have made an appearance. âI wouldâve loved to see the Arrows make it past semi-finals, though. Now, how anyone could actually prefer the Wasps,â Marlene shook her head, âthatâs beyond me.â
A brow rose at Marleneâs comment. He glanced at her, his drink pressed to his lips as Evan sipped at the alcohol once more. âAnd what is wrong with them?â Evan asked, leaning carefully against the drinks table. âTheyâre better than the Arrows, though, so I honestly donât understand your opinion at all.â
msdorcasmeadowes:
Dorcasâ smile faltered for a moment as his tone turned sour, though was not about to start a pointless argument in the middle of the party. She took a longer sip of her drink, choosing to ignore his comment and silently agree to disagree. âWell a little competition isnât a bad thing.â She said raising her eyebrow slightly as he paused. âWere you Captain? You seem like you would be.â She told him as she smiled slightly back up at him.Â
âFor a year,â he commented, remembering the pride he felt in receiving the honour of captaining his team. Quidditch was such a great way to release some of the stress Evan had been feeling, an environment where he felt like he could just let go and live within the moment. âIt was good fun; sometimes I wonder what could have happened if I had continued with it.â

âCheers to that!â Bellatrix said with a grin, raising her glass and taking a long drink from it. She knew this man; he was only two years her inferior, and they often had dealings with one another for the Dark Lordâs purposes. It was liberating to see that he shared her philosophy on life. When Evan mentioned the Minister, Bellatrix cackled. âIn my opinion, where the Minister is involved we are always on official business,â she said with an evil wink. âIs he here?â
âOver there,â Evan pointed across the crowds. There was a large group of official looking wizards and witches, talking loudly and generally being irritating. âI wonder how many secrets they know and how easy it would be to get them out... That one in the navy robes looks like a squealer.â A drop of truth serum and anyone would be a squealer but there were far more entertaining ways to get information from someone.Â
lxrd-lucius:
âNo, no.â Lucius gave a dismissive wave of his hand, barely glancing around the venue. âNarcissa came with me, of course.â It was one of the best things about being married - Lucius never had to suffer the indignity of attending a party by himself, and certainly never worried about his partner looking less than perfect. âAnd you?â
âBy myself,â Evan replied, his hands slipping into his dress robe pockets. There wasnât anyone in Evanâs life that he could share moments like this with; he was happy on his own for now. âAnd how is she? How is married life treating you?â he asked. âIs it living up to the expectation or worse?â
msdorcasmeadowes:
âI suppose.â Doe shrugged slightly and took another sip of her drink before she continued, âI could never get into it. Itâs definitely the heights. Maybe if it were closer to the ground itâd be much more fun. Oh, you know, like soccerâŚsame thing practically but just played on the ground.â Dorcas said with a small laugh.
âThen again, Iâve never been very good at sports in general, so I probably wouldnât like that either.â Doe continued to ramble for the next few minutes about her lack of athleticism and how she was much more into reading. âOhâŚâ She said, finally realizing how long she had been talking, âIâm probably boring you to death with my whole lifes story. Were you much of an athlete?âÂ
âGames on the ground are for Muggles,â Evan commented, a sour tone to his voice. âThose games sound rather dull; we definitely make it more exciting by throwing magic at it.â He had never really considered the sports Muggles played mainly because Evan knew theyâd be dull and unentertaining. âDonât worry... Youâve clearly had a drink or two so the rambling is expected. I played Quidditch whilst at Hogwarts but it was mainly because I wanted to have a bit of competition and pow-,â he paused, his mouth twisting into a smile. âLook who is rambling now.â
lilyxsnaps:
âI like the Harpies, myself,â Lily replied, sure that the man wasnât even looking for an answer. He looked vaguely familiar, but Lily wasnât sure if theyâd ever actually met before. Truthfully, Lily had come to see her friends, and to have a little fun- James was the one living on a high with Puddlemereâs win. âMy husband is a Puddlemere fan,â she said, this time sure that he was indeed looking for a response, as she gestured towards the crowd. âHeâs in there, somewhere,â she added, laughing. âIâm sorry, you look so familiar⌠Have we met before?â
Catching sight of her red hair, Evan surveyed her appearance for a moment trying to place a name. âIâm not surprised that youâre a Harpies fan,â Evan replied, a slight smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. His eyes shifted across the crowds, trying to pull out a familiar face or at least a face he could pair with the red head next to him. âI feel like I know your face, too,â he admitted, looking back to her now with a frown. âRosier. Evan Rosier.â

âIt doesnât particularly matter to me,â said Lucius. He patted his pockets, grinning loudly. Galleons clinked loudly under his hands. âA profit is a profit.â Lucius never had a preference for teams - he gravitated to winners, and never stuck to a single Quidditch team. âDid you make any bets, then?â
âOh, damn, no, I didnât make any bets. Clearly should have,â Evan replied, shaking his head. âWell, congratulations on the win, then; I guess you have more to celebrate than most of us here.â He hadnât bothered to follow the league too closely that year, mainly because Evan had other things on his mind than Quidditch. He was so far out of the loop that he hadnât realised when the final was actually taking place. âAre you here alone?âÂ
msdorcasmeadowes:
âIâm not even that big of a Quidditch fan,â Dorcas hummed as she sipped at her drink, scanning the crowd of people once more as they cheered and danced in the streets. âThere are way too many rules to even try to understand and climbing up all those stairs and sitting that high up to even see the match, definitely not my thing. Even so, Iâd never miss an opportunity to partyâ
âA party is what everyone needs right now, you know? With all of this negativity and violence in the world, itâs nice to just forget about it all for one night and have a good time.â It may not have been what everyone needed, but it was definitely what she needed. She needed to forget everything going on, even for just one night. Forget about her parents, forget about work, forget about all of those horrid newspaper articles she read everyday, just forget it all.Â
âPlaying the game is far more entertaining than watching it,â Evan stated. He had played whilst at Hogwarts and had loved every second of it; the thrill, the adrenaline, the competition. Watching just got him frustrated and irritable now so, he tried to avoid going to matches where possible. As Dorcas continued her point, Evanâs gaze dropped for a moment. It was him and his people that she was referring to, and it felt oddly strange to have to stated so simply to him. He was the negativity, he was the violence.
âA distraction is all we need to forget the horrors for one night,â he eventually stated, looking back up at the witch with a slightly forced smile. Evan wondered how long the fake happiness and joyful celebrations would last before another horror forced its way onto the front of the Daily Prophet.
labellestrange:
âNo, I donât have time for this nonsense, I just came for a fun night,â Bellatrix said with a shameless smile. âSo I guess that means neither of us really belong here, but that weâll enjoy it more than those other fools. Lucky us! Thatâs the best kind.â Admittedly, she had had several drinks already, but she maintained that what she said was an honest truthâshe fully intended to have a night full of disorder, spontaneity, madness. She felt like it had been so long since sheâd done something crazy just because; and, though she believed in her cause, the war had been deviating her attention and energy to creating a very serious, very specific chaos and she missed the liberty of choosing the chaos.
A smile cracked Evanâs features, creasing forming across his usually smooth skin. âThen let us truly enjoy ourselves and make those stiff, business goers jealous that weâre having all the fun,â he added, swigging his drink again. The stresses of the real world he seemed to have thrown himself into had put a strain on every inch of Evanâs life; even his business had taken a knock because he couldnât devote the time nor the energy to it. But, tonight, it gave him the opportunity to forget about the odd tingling her felt across his forearm where the serpent tattoo still blazed. âHave you seen the Minister of Magic? If this were official business we would be able having so much fun.â
msdorcasmeadowes:
Dorcas smiled at Evan as she watched him pour the whiskey, âThere are perfectly good cups right there. Someone might think youâre trying to steal all the liquorâ She joked, âThey make these flasks now a days that can hold entire bottles of whiskeyâŚor vodka, or well whatever youâd want to put in there. Orange juice even.â Doe rambled, the effects of the few drinks she had already starting to take control. She rambled sober, but she rambled twenty times more tipsy.Â
Doe shrugged a little as she scanned the crowd of people, âWell, I guess, technically.â She sipped at her drink before looking back at Evan. âMy friends are supposed to be around here somewhere, and I was supposed to be looking for them. But you see, I couldnât find any of them and the music was really good.âÂ
His hand paused for a moment, wondering if he ought to put the bottle down but the thought passed quickly. âItâs here to take so, I thought Iâd take my fair share,â Evan replied, smirking as he finished topping himself up. Corking the bottle and screwing the flask shut, he turned to face the young witch. âI think I want to get my hands on one of those flasks; they sound really handy,â Evan teased.Â
Following her gaze, he noticed a few familiar faces but no one he would willingly talk to to pass the time, no one he considered a friend. He doubted his friends would have come here unless it was to keep up appearances; Evan thought showing his face at something so simple would make things simple for him, too. âI donât know many people here either... But itâs a party, Iâd be stupid not to come.â

WHEN: July 1978 WHERE: Puddletown, Dorset, England EVENT: Puddlemere Unitedâs Victory Celebrations
âI always preferred the Wimbourne Wasps,â Evan stated, his nose slightly curling up at the sight of all the Puddlemere colours: navy blue and gold seemed to be covering every inch of the environment. The theming reminded him heavily of Hogwarts and the âbanding togetherâ that the professors seemed to force down their throats. Even if it wasnât Evanâs team, he was here for the booze, the likely hood of meeting a âfriendâ for the evening, and maybe finding out some information that would be useful at a later date. âDo you even support Puddlemere?â
