with memories of you that

the happiest part

It is hilarious how hard

it is to get over

a love that I insisted

was destined to fail

it is late at night

and all i can think about

i have missed nothing

in this world as much as i 

though much has happened,

i refuse to put you on

sometimes, i forget

you. then like circulation,

she is waiting for

me to forget you but your

maybe i’ll see you before you notice

the crooked grin devouring my face

or the hesitation in my eyes. 

i’m not very good at words when

it comes to you.

maybe i’ll choke on a hello and

slowly stutter syllables that confuse

you into a smile. you might even

whisper my name as the universe

explodes with euphoria before committing

itself to an awkward silence. 

Maybe you’ll laugh and we will momentarily

forget that 2016 ever happened and

I’ll fill your hand with warmth while we watch

the world around us stop. I never really believed

in second chances but

we all want to fall

in love with angels but end

we have reached the end

of a long year, filled with growth
