When ogres travel, they do so in human shape.
They hate doing this. They think itâs beneath them. But they do it anyway.
The Vicomte Graoul de Saucisson â and this is another thing about ogres. Ogres as a species are nobility. There is no such thing as a low-born ogre. There is always room in the ogrish peerage for another vicomte, another prince, another branch to tie to the rotted tree â strode up to the chateau in human shape. The roses in the garden shivered as he passed by. The huge, high doors opened by themselves and he walked through them without a shift in his stride.
When the doors slammed shut behind him, he moved to shrug the shape off his shoulders like a coat.
Then he saw the woman.
He froze. He stared. She stared back.
He slowly pulled the shape back on. âWho are you?â he asked.
She looked mildly appalled. âWho are you?â she asked. âWhat are you doing in my home?â
âYour home? This isââ He stopped. He reconsidered. âI am the Vicomte de Saucisson,â he said. âIâm looking for the Marquis de Pamplemousse. He is a⌠colleague of mine.â
âOh,â she said. She couldâve looked more abashed. âIâm sorry, monsieur, heâs never mentioned you before. You must be here to share your congratulations, of course, I can fetch him right away.â
âHeâs never mentioned you either,â the vicomte did not say. âOf course,â he said. âCongratulations. What about?â
She seemed surprised. âHave you not heard? Monsieur, the curse on my husband has been lifted.â
He stared. His lips started to form the words âWhat curse,â and then there was a sound like a horse falling down a set of stairs and a man he had never seen before wearing the marquisâs clothes came barrelling down the hall.
âVicomte!â said the man with the marquisâs voice. âMy human friend! The curse has been lifted, and I am a human once again!â
He was slightly out of breath when he reached the woman. He clasped her arm and grinned at him with manic desperation. âThis is wonderful news! You must be here to share your congratulations!â
âLie like hell,â said the manâs eyes.
The vicomte stared. âOh!â he said. âMy â human friend! Human once again! Words fail me. After all theseââ (there was the slightest hesitation) ââyears?â
The woman put her head at an angle and narrowed her eyes at him.
The man walked up, still grinning like a rictus chimpanzee, and clasped a hand on his shoulder. âYes, of course! Darling, me and the vicomte are going to have a manly one-on-one conversation while he shares his congratulations, as we human men are wont to do.â And then with a strength that could only be ogrish, the marquis pulled the vicomte by the shoulder down the hall and into a drawing room.
When the bolt of the lock clicked into place behind them, the man wearing the marquisâs clothes visibly sagged.
âWhat the hell,â said the vicomte.
âYou shouldâve sent word ahead that you'd be coming today.â
âI never do.â He gesticulated and tried to conjure a single question out of the swarm buzzing in his brain. âWhat the hell is going on? Who was that? Why are you pretending to be human? What curse are we talking about?â
The marquis groaned and crumpled into a chair. As he did he shifted out of human shape, clothes magically tailoring themselves to contain his ogrish form, something like a moose and an orangutan.
âI had a moment of weakness.â
âAre you sure it wasnât a stroke?â
âI got married.â
âAnd thatâs another thingââ
âGraoul, please.â He sighed and put his face in his talons. âLast winter a merchant broke into my home. He stole one of my roses, and in exchange I asked him to send me one of his daughters to be my bride.â
The vicomte nodded. This at least was a sacred and recognizable ogrish custom, and he did like to see the old ways in practice.
âAnd it was fine! It was perfectly lovely. Sheâs a wonderful woman, but one night I decided to put on a human shape to change things up in the bedroom, and she lost her mind! Started talking about how I was clearly an enchanted prince and that her love for me mustâve broken some curse and turned me human again! I had no idea how to tell her otherwise, and now Iâve done it for too long to back out.â
The vicomte stared. âSorry,â he said. âYou decided to turn into a human to spice things up in the bedroom, and that was the face you chose?â
The marquis growled. âIf I knew I was going to be wearing it for the rest of my life I wouldâve gone with something better.â
Figurinâ Out How to Draw Houses (2025)
hiiiiiiii ^_^ I'm god's specialest angel!!! my job is to crawl through the tunnels and make the sides of the tunnel walls nice and smooth...
AMA
i actually go really slow... >_< but the tunnels are very big!! i try to do my best though ^-^
and how I make the tunnels smooth... with concrete!
hiiii yes!! I use a lot of tools and powers! for my tools I have alot of mouths all over that the concrete comes out of... so the concrete comes out all over! you have to put concrete all over the tunnel for the sides of the tunnels to be smooth ^-^ for my power yes alot but its hard to move int the tunnel and my friends push me forward :)
my sister went before me and she made the floor of the tunnel smooth :) so I could walk on it! and i make the walls my brother will come and he makes the ceiling! he has to use special pipes to get the concrete all the way to the top.
YES the concrete tastes good
welllllll sort of... a truck drives into me... and THEY mix the concrete in there ... I mostly just put it on the walls ^_^; but we all go together!
there's another another angel (so I guess one of my sisters) who goes in the tunnel and to be honest i don't like her very much... HER job is to go after my brother and then DRILL HOLES in the side of our tunnel and then put MORE CONCRETE into the holes.... so it goes waaaaay into the rock... like im sorry!!! did I not do a good enough job???
she's supposed to be different because her concrete is sooooooo special and smooth and doesnt have any rocks in it >_<; idk it just feels bad I guess. because i already tried really hard to make the walls smooth. but i guess she's part of god's plan too and we all have our part to do.
why do I make the tunnels smooth? well it's my job! ^_^ and otherwise the tunnels would be really rough because they're bare rough rock..... but if you put concrete allll around in the right way it's nice and round and smooth and perfect <3 and that's important!!
I dont know who dug the tunnels pls stop asking >_>;
I dont know what water is pls stop asking

âAfter a performance, I came out into the lobby where a middle-aged Dutch woman was waiting to see me. She politely inquired, âWhat is Hans doing now?â I responded, âWho do you mean by Hans?â âHans Buruma, my husband,â she said. As she explained it, Hans Buruma was once in charge of mail delivery at the Amsterdam Central Post Office. Three years before, he had attended Heretics (Jashumon), a guest production from Tokyo presented by my theatre troupe at the Mickery Theater. Just after the play began, two men masked in black leaped down into the audience area, grabbed her husband by the arms, and forcibly dragged him up onto the stage. Once onstage, Hans was dressed in a costume and made up, and before he knew it, he had become a character in the play. At least two times during the course of the play, she clearly saw her husband joining other characters who together pulled the ropes. He seemed to be enjoying himself. But when the play was over, Hans never returned to his seat in the audience. The wife waited for two hours, then went to the dressing room, but the members of the company had already returned to the hotel. That night, Hans failed to come home. After two more nights, he still hadnât returned. By then, the company had left Holland and moved on to West Germany. She thought he had joined the company, that âthey hired Hans for his acting skill.â She thought, âMy husband is in the play.â Now. after three years had passed, she was pleading with me, âPlease give me back my husband.â I had to tell her that I had never heard this story before. Neither I nor anyone in the company knew a middle-aged Dutchman named Hans Buruma. There was no evidence indicating that such a person had been with us during the past three years. When I told her that I didnât know him, she was on the verge of tears. âThen where is Hans?â she asked. Three years agoâone middle-aged male post-office delivery worker evaporated into our play. In this case, we cannot distinguish where the drama ends and reality begins.â

For anyone wondering, the PhD student's name is Myra Cheng.
Here's a link to an article about the study from the Stanford Report: link.
Across three preregistered studies, participants interacting with sycophantic AI became more convinced of their own rightness and less willing to repair relationships. Yet at the same time, participants rated sycophantic AI models as higher quality, more trustworthy, and more desirable for future use, which may explain why this behavior has persisted despite its harmful impacts.

Last week I accidentally took an edible at 10x my usual dose. I say âaccidentallyâ but it was really more of a âmy friend held it out to my face and I impulsively swallowed it like a pythonâ, which was technically on purpose but still an accident in that my squamate instincts acted faster than my ability to assess the situation and ask myself if I really wanted to get Atreides high or not.
Anyway. I was painting the wall when it hit. My friend heard me make a noise and asked what was wrongâI explained that I had just fallen through several portals. I realized that painting the wall fulfilled my entire hierarchy of needs, and was absolutely sure that I was on track to escaping the cycle of samsara if I just kept at it a little longer. I was thwarted on my journey towards nirvana only by the fact that I ran out of paint.
Seeking a surrogate act of humble service through which I might be redeemed and made human, I turned to unwashed dishes in the sink and took up the holy weapon of the sponge. I was partway through cleaning the blender when it REALLY hit.
You ever clean a blender? Itâs a shockingly intimate act. They are complex tools. One of the most complicated denizens of the kitchen. Glass and steel and rubber and plastic. Fuck! Theyâve got gaskets. You canât just scrub âem and rinse them down like any other piece of shit dish. Youâve got to dissemble them piece by piece, groove by sensitive groove, taking care to lavish the spinning blades with cautious attention. Thereâs something sensual about it. Something strangely vulnerable.
As I stood there, turning the pieces over in my hands, I thought about all the things we ask of blenders. They donât have an easy job. They are hard laborers taking on a thankless task. I have used them so roughly in my haste for high-density smoothies, pushing them to their limits and occasionally breaking them. I remembered the smell of acrid smoke and decaying rubber that filled the kitchen in the break room the last time I tried to make a smoothie at workâthe motor overtaxed and melted, the gasket cracked and brittle. Strawberry slurry leaked out of it like the blood of a slain animal.
Was this blender built to last? Or was it doomed to an early grave in some distant landfill by the genetic disorder of planned obsolescence? I didnât know, and was far too high to make an educated guess. But I knew that whatever care and tenderness and empathy I put into it, the more respect for the partnership of man and machine, the better it would perform for me.
This thought filled me with a surge of affection. However long its lifespan, I wanted it to be filled with dignity and love and understanding. I thought: I bet no one has hugged this blender before. And so I lifted it from its base.
A blender is roughly the size and shape of a human baby. Cradling one in your arms satisfies a primal need. A month ago I was permitted to hold an infant for the first time in my life, an experience which was physically and psychologically healing. I felt an echo of that satisfaction holding my friend the blender, and the thought of parting with it felt even more ridiculous than bringing it with me to hang out on my friendâs bed.
I had a dream that I went to heaven and heaven had its own heaven-exclusive tv shows that were written and produced there in heaven and they showed me the most popular show in heaven and it was this really beautiful drama and, at the end of the episode, the credits said âCreated by Mike Ehrmantrautâ and they were like âoh yeah. fictional characters who die in earth media go to real heavenâ and Iâm like âsure but mike did some pretty fucked up stuff, wouldnât he go to hell?â and theyâre like âno, all the fucked up things he did were fictional. people only get judged for the real things they do and the only thing mike really did was bring joy to millions of viewersâ and i think thatâs beautiful
obsessed with the concept of the anti-saint. you will suffer cruelties and humiliations that should be unthinkable and die pointlessly, and if you must be remembered at all, it will only be with revulsion, as if you were a festering scar on reality itself. neither resistance nor submission will redeem you. god will not save you. god has abandoned you. everyone has abandoned you. you are alone in an uncaring universe.
