In 1955 Philip Johnson’s protege Harold Steadman designed a modernist home defined by clarity, structure & bold transparency. Decades later that very house stepped into music history becoming the iconic cover for Billy Joel’s Glass Houses album. Sharp lines, clean geometry and a little rebellious edge. It proved that great design doesn’t just shape spaces, it shapes culture. When architecture is fearless enough it becomes a stage, a statement and sometimes a rock & roll legend.  

eA+c is proud to see our design come to life at the Skin Surgery Center of Hickory NC.  Our approach uses aesthetics & design to bring comfort to patients.  The project is a new surgical center providing procedure rooms, a laboratory, nurse stations, and patient areas.  We recently performed our final walk through and the facility is now open to patients.

We are very excited to see our Sushi Rosé Restaurant is complete and open for business! Sushi Rosé is located at the Link Apartment building on 5th Street, in downtown Winston-Salem, NC.  It is a sushi and wine bar featuring Japanese and Peruvian cuisine, and you should check it out!

As projects unfold for commercial developers for new buildings, renovations and second generation interior upfits, we see a few key mistakes that are made very often.  We have compiled this brief list of pitfalls to avoid for you.

4 - Equipment coordination ignored until late in development

Making early equipment coordination a priority avoids costly field issues. Getting your equipment vendors to coordinate with your architect as early as possible helps ensure locations and rough-ins are installed correctly. 

5 - Waiting to submit for building permit  

Time is critical and time is money.  Save time by having your project submitted to local plan review by the architect at the same time you undertake bidding.  This will easily save weeks and the permit will be ready once you ink the contract with the general contractor.

1 - Not taking the upfront time for an ADA evaluation

When locating second generation spaces always be sure to have the existing facility ADA evaluated by an architect.  Real estate teams often miss major liabilities that become costly change orders when not uncovered.  

2 - Rushing programs + need lists

Spend extra time programming your space needs.  When time is not spent on programming spaces and rooms upfront, it leads to multiple revision rounds during the design process.  Revisions cost time in schedule and often additional fees which all can be avoided.  

3 - Existing conditions not Tested  

Budgeting for testing of existing conditions as needed helps to eliminate unknowns and avoid very expensive change orders.  Testing for mold, asbestos and soil issues are just a few examples of what can cause major expenses if discovered later.

eA+c is proud to be the design firm for a new and thriving biotechnology company based in NC.  Our design will expand their current facility significantly.  The study of biological structures can parallel architectural structures in many ways.  Design work is underway currently. 

At the September Design Review Board meeting the Town of Davidson voted to approve our amazing new multi-story building design.  We are proud to have been working with the Town the last few months to reach this milestone.  The new building with be located on North Main Street in Davidson.  The lower level will be home to restaurant and retail spaces while the upper two levels will be office space.  The corners will feature meeting rooms with amazing views.  The Town, the owners and the design team are all excited about the next step in developing this exciting project.  

Our firm combines design talents with skills that are necessary to design for Healthcare facilities.  Our flawless work on surgical centers, pediatrics, spine centers, ophthalmology, neurology and all levels of patient care demonstrate how we help clients develop successful projects.  We are very proud of the new 57,000 square foot Neurosciences Center located in Winston-Salem NC featured in the photo.  We are a national firm currently working on medical facilities as far west as Texas.  Whether it is large or small we can assist in making your healthcare project a huge success.    

eA+c is currently developing the new Neurosciences Center of Excellence which will be home to 9 individual clinics serving patients of various needs such as Spine Specialists and Neurosurgery.  The facility will be nearly 59,000 square feet and is located in Winston-Salem NC.  Construction will be commencing on the project in the spring of 2019. 

eA+c is using our talents in breathing new life into an over 45 year old building in Wilmington NC.  The structure was once upon a time a restaurant which we are designing + developing into a family dental practice.  The project is located on Market Street in a terrific location.  the improved building will be a wonderful addition to the local community and local architecture. 

eA+c is thrilled to be designing The Shops at Barefoot Village located in North Myrtle Beach South Carolina.  Our design work always reflects context and in this case coastal South Carolina.  The exciting new Barefoot Village development will have living, dining, amenities and shopping options for the community.  It is located near the Barefoot Landing entertainment hub of Myrtle Beach.  The project is scheduled to be complete by the fall of 2018.  

The West Marine, designed by espinosa ARCHITECTURE, is now open for business in New Bern, North Carolina.  West Marine is a California based company who provides aquatic crafts, goods and equipment.  The thought of water, flip flops and sunscreen can help get us through the winter months.  The development is still rolling with tenants opening as construction continues on the new buildings.  We will continue to update everyone on its progress. 

espinosa ARCHITECTURE is thrilled to be working with Novant Health as they shape the future of medicine and the patient experience of healthcare.

Work is complete on our beautiful multi-tenant building located in Apex NC.  The project is an 8,500 square foot building which is home to a Starbucks Coffee, Pei Wei Asian Eatery,  5 Star Nutrition and Triangle Visions.  This latest espinosa ARCHITECTURE building is a part of the Nichols Plaza development, featuring many eA+c buildings, on Highway 64.
