Troubled Water: What's Wrong with What We Drink (2019) (Literature) (3/3)
Troubled Water: What's Wrong with What We Drink (2019) by Seth M. Siegel
To begin with, this is an impressive book that has different stories that do not follow a chronological order, but rather tell us terrible experiences about the dangers of drinking water that is possibly contaminated, and the worst thing is that many times it is not possible to know how to identify it.
This book is directly related to and talks about pollution, how it influences the drinking water that most people in the United States drink. Through the different stories this is evident and makes the reader aware of the risks involved in not acting responsibly when drinking water in urban cities.
The author outlines the potential health risks associated with contaminated water and how these issues disproportionately affect vulnerable populations. It explores and exposes the long-term health consequences of exposure to contaminants in drinking water. He concludes by calling on people to raise awareness about the care of this valuable resource.
I consider that it works more as a social criticism of the drinking water system that some US states have, the author accuses them of being involved in pollution. While book discusses the issues with the current water supply but also suggests policies and possible fixes to raise the quality of the water. Siegel talks about creative technology, improved governance, and community involvement as possible ways to deal with these problems.
