“Among the many deities revered by the Aztecs was Xochiquetzal [classic Nahuatl name translates to ‘young maiden’], goddess of flowers and of love. According to an Aztec myth, she lived in a paradise as wife of one of the most important gods. In that paradise grew a tree called xochitlicacan, the fruits of which possessed aphrodisiac properties. After Xochiquetzal ate this fruit, she was easily seduced. In consequence, she was expelled from paradise, while at the same time the tree withered and broke in two…”

Wallace Wood, a cult artist for EC comics, a comic book publisher of the ‘50s, ended his career half blind and drawing for the sex-shop magazine Bang!. Previously, he turned his hand to various fairy tales, presenting Alice of Wonderland in a series of compromising positions, Snow White going down on the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella on all fours, etc in Paul Krassner The Realist…

Orgy by Yayoi Kusama

“Kusama expresses her opnion of the war in Vietnam in her own way” announced the Japanese artist. With a place on the wor “piece,” she set out to state (1) that the buttock was a piece of a woman, and (2) that the woman wanted peace in Vietnam. Yayoi Kusama was a close friend of Donald Judd and Joseph Cornell. She had no need of LSD to produce psychedelic images; she’d lived with them constantly since the age of ten. Her vision swam with hallucinatory polka dots wherever she went. In 1960 she launched what she called her “Obliteration Manifesto”: “My life is one polka dot lost among thousands of others.” … Artists and hippies played an important part in forcing the final withdrawal of the U.S. Army from the conflict in 1973. Afterward, mentally exhausted, Kusama returned to Japan and checked into the Seiwa Hospital, where she works to this day.”

Bending over like a bow: This sculpture depicts a fantasy posture requiring yogic expertise and physical adroitness, obtained by continuous practice. The youth inserts his penis and at the same time churns it around. This is possible as the postures opens up, and allows an upward pushing direction. The posture falls into the category kalaparupam - suratam, a combative sexual action, including deep and hard penetration. Wood, temple, processional chariot, late 19th century, Tamilnadu.

Latina Seeks Thug, 2014. Performance and multimedia.

I was riding around town with a friend talking about dudes and how all I want in life is a “thug to have a baby with”. After saying it outloud I had the idea of making a craigslist ad, seeking this so called “prince charming”. The ad was up for 17 hours and I received 101 emails. In this installation, I used the room as my “inbox” and printed the emails I received. All of the Images used in the room are the spreads to the Latina Seeks Thug Zine. The piece is about communication.
