privet comrade, you maybe have tips for new robotocist?
Heya! Your name is Yixixi, right? I personally have never worked in Funky sector, so I'm not sure how Robotics differs there, but I'll give what advice I can.
Start with the basics and get them down-pat. One of the most important things the Roboticist does, at least in Delta sector, is make and maintain Cyborgs. Learn how to work with them - making them, giving them new modules, transferring parts from one to another, and getting MMIs sorted with them. Once you've got that down-pat, you've learned the most important part of Robotics.
After that, I recommend learning how to make the more simplistic bots. They don't come with their own manual and their specific parts aren't made in the fabricator for the most part, so you'll need to consult your Guidebook's Crafting Guide for them. The most important two, in my opinion, are Medibots and Cleanbots. The former are very useful in Medical, since they can help treat patients even while doctors aren't available, and the latter is useful for cleaning up spills when there's no Janitor around. In Delta sector, Medibots are made with a Health Analyser, an empty Medkit, a Proximity Sensor and a Cyborg Arm, while Cleanbots are made using a Proximity Sensor, a Cyborg Arm and a Bucket.
I'm not sure if IPCs are a thing in your sector, but if they are, they're the next step in my opinion. Learning how to put an IPC together and how to do maintenance on them will be much appreciated by just about all of them. Putting an IPC together requires surgical tools and knowledge, but since they don't bleed or take poison damage, operating on IPCs works well as a great introduction to Surgery. I always tell people, if you want to get into Surgery, try Robotics first and use IPCs to learn how to operate - it's surprisingly similar. Again, consult the guidebook if you're not sure.
Once you know how to make those, time for the big stuff. You won't be making or practicing these often unless Epistemics has a heavy surplus of materials. Larger mechs, such as the Ripley that's used by Logistics, are a lot more expensive to make, but can be very useful. Their parts will also generally be made in the fabricator, but they won't be cheap and the process of putting them together is complicated. Once again, consult your guidebook to check the steps - they tend to differ a little for individual mechs.
Once you've done that, that'll be just about every aspect of Robotics. At least, in my sector. Knowledge comes with experience and asking questions, while skill comes from good old fashioned practice. The more you do it, the better you'll be at it. Welcome to the team!
{OOC: Medibots and Cleanbots are made in the Crafting Menu. You can check the next step on mechs by shift+clicking on them to examine them. I'm just using the guidebook as an IC term here.}
