f/m shippings are great, heterosexuals just have the most awful taste in heterosexual relationships. why can’t you all be normal and instead of shipping edgy manchild x soon to be house wife, why don’t you ship that has whatever Adam and Morticia from the Adams family has.
every time this post gains notes again I am reminded of my pain and sufferings
“drunk me thought she could do a backflip”
mushroom synths
I love it someone please explain wtf I just watched
@national-shitpost-registry This is a modular synth! Basically an instrument that works with voltage that you can control in order to generate and modulate different parameters to create sound, logic and, eventually, music. Here what is happening is that the mushroom is controlling the voltage thanks to the pin. By doing that, all the parameters connected to the mushroom went crazy, probably because it generates a really weird voltage and in a very random way. You can check a youtuber called Andrew Huang and his music and also Omri Cohen to learn how to do it yourself with a freeware called VCV Rack!
The electricity generated by the mushrooms has to do with the hyphae, the ‘roots’ of the mushroom, that make up the organism! The ends of the hyphae contain potassium ions that the mushroom uses to send electric pulses across its mycelium! It’s theorised that this is how distant parts of a mushroom ‘know’ what’s happening to each other!

90% of writing advice can be thrown out the window for your first draft.
Show don’t tell? Ignore.
Basic grammar and punctuation? Unnecessary.
Physical descriptions of characters? Don’t need to bother.
Solid plot? That’s for later.
The words don’t come as fast when you’re thinking of the best way to put them together. It doesn’t have to be pretty, or much more than inconsistent nonsense. The point is to have it exist.
Effective storytelling is for subsequent drafts! Go write some nonsense!
As a hyper-perfectionist human, THIS is a piece of advice I wish I’d internalized a hell of a lot sooner. If I hadn’t overwhelmed myself by considering every little thing, starting over when it gets “too messy”… there’s no doubt in my mind I’d have a first draft by now.
Now, passion is the only thing I care about in my first draft.
when i’m writing fiction, the main rule i try to stick to is that: the first draft is where i write what’s important to me.
this usually means character arcs and deep ethical and political debates for me, but for some people it’s gonna be physical description or in-depth plotting or Whatever
your subsequent drafts are where you fill in the gaps and make things make sense, but that first draft should be everything you personally care about, and don’t worry much about the rest
Okay but after you’ve done that all-important first draft and you know what needs to be changed and fixed how the fuck do you get a second draft out of it.
For me, the second draft involves a deep-dive re-read, going through every detail, working out what is extraneous, what needs padded out, what needs adjusted or amended or polished based on the final thing.
It also depends on if you just need to tweak the original file or if you want to re-write the whole thing. I’ve done both.
The first is my usual technique, where I make a copy of the the original for second run and that’s the one I cover with my notes. I always add notes in bright colours in the body of the text, because I have the attention span of a guppy and that makes me pay attention. Notes in the comment boxes, I’m not so good with, because I lose track. As I make the amendments, I remove the coloured patches, so my patchwork book becomes whole.
The second technique is sometimes easier. You know the story. You know what you need to add and where/when you need to add it. This gives you the chance to add more dynamism. First time I did this, my first chapter went from being bland infodumping to an action scene and it really jump-started the whole story and gave me much more momentum. Getting the first chapter right can make such a difference - it sets the vibe and the energy from the word go.
It all depends on whether planning and outlining work for you as well. If you have specific beats and moments you want to hit, finding a rhythm for them can take a bit of time. Write out a timeline, so you can clearly see where and when you’re hitting things. Sometimes, it can help because it lets you see where the action flags and where there’s potentially a gap that needs to be tightened.
That said, everyone does things differently. I am a keyboard-smashing word monkey and I will smash my way from beginning to end of a book for the most part, then go back and chip off bits and pieces to tidy up the shape of it. Some people prefer to structure everything beforehand.
Consider the first draft your foundation. You have the base outline down. Now, all you can decide what the building looks like on top. It may not be exactly what you intended, but you have the shape to work from :)
