Dale Cooper works as an antithesis of what I would expect from any person who deals with FBI matters, more so in fiction: charming, with a murderous love for donuts and coffee (a damn fine cup) and a believer in the meaning of dreams. In early concepts for the character it seemed that someone thought adequate to make Cooper a smoker, but it was one of the best decisions not to make him like that. Cooper’s pecularities make him somewhat of a man-child with a developed sensibility, with equal bits of the not so healthy habits of both adults and children (sweets and caffeine). Someone with such indefinite sweet tooth would probably not be the type of person you think is going to solve the case of murder of the beautiful girl in town.
To top off, Cooper is also a hopeless romantic trying to keep it within his own meassures, which makes him even more relatable. Whereas some people lose their time wandering around things that really don’t matter, he will surely be busy appreciating the beauty of the simplier things (like those ducks on the lake). Diane… I think we have a cutie here.
As someone I love once said, “we all need a Cooper in our lives.”
