BIOGRAPHY
the third son of king aldheim and queen winifred was supposed to be a daughter. everyone was so sure that the babe would be a girl. the king and queen already looking at matches that could potentially be made. but when the baby was born, out came another son. being the third son didn't mean he was unimportant, only that he wasn't as important. often ahlred was left to his own devices which meant either training or... generally doing whatever he wanted. politics were set for alfred and at times for aelle, as much as the latter was uninclined to participate. there was never any need for ahlred to learn much. as the third son, his path was clear. battle. not a commander like his brother but a fearsome warrior none the less. trained in not only battle tactics of the english but also privy to danish warfare. aelle could keep his tactics and strategies, ahlred was there to be a warrior. he listened to his brother, but often his orders are slightly different. losing alfred was unexpected, his brother was dead and all the fighting and perfected actions he or aelle could do meant nothing. ahlred had never doubted his prowess in battle until that day. if he couldn't protect his brother then, he would have to get better. he'd have to train and if he held his sword so tight and swung so many times that his hands bled, then so be it. with aelle as king, ahlred is still left to his own devices, not because aelle lets him, but because he can't really stop him. he loves his brother and they both know if needed ahlred will follow those orders. but his brother is a stick in the mud, and it's one of ahlred's job to at least attempt to pull him out. whispers filled the air when aelle took a mistress, a surprise to ahlred but in the end it remains none of his business. ahlred would rather not go to war with their only ally but he truly couldn't be bothered who aelle takes to bed. as long as his name is kept out of any talks for a crown against his brother. though vastly different and bothersome at times. his loyalty lies with his brother.
WANTED CONNECTIONS
person who taught him danish battle: probably not a dane themself, I can't see someone actually being in east anglia but maybe someone who studied it?
a betrothal he refused: probably before aelle became king and they didn't "officially" have a king. probably nothing against her? maybe she doesn't like him because he can be actually so annoying but he saw his chance to get out of a marriage and took it.
possibly a dane lover? idk it could be fun I'm not sure how anyone would feel about an english prince but it could potentially be fun.
