I Think you have to know a little bit about religion to really appreciate *Preacher's Daughter*.
From what we can gather, the character of Isaiah is like a reincarnation of Satan.
But in a religious context, Isaiah’s message is this: “He constantly warned of divine punishment, yet at the same time conveyed a message of profound hope, redemption, and restoration.”
So, therefore. We could understand that, even though Isaiah killed Ethel, he brought her the peace she had always been begging and praying for—an end to this punishment, these bodies she was hiding, that guilt.
I feel that Ethel, in the end, surrendered to the world, on her knees, begging Isaiah to let her live, even though she really had to die. Also, that the end of the album, (Sun-Bleached Flies), is about the memories of being at mass. It brings her to feel those last moments of peace “Where everything was fine.” Reuniting her with her father (and perhaps Willoughby).
(I’m high, sorry)
