Three years ago I recorded a live Repos set in my band rehearsal space in Chicago. This was later pressed to an LP and sold as a special record store day record.
A few months later I had the idea to invite my close friends HOAX to stop by Chicago after a show in Urbana, IL to the rehearsal space for a late night LIVE set that I would record and release as a cassette tape. I had told many people to keep it as low key as possible as HOAX was an incredibly popular band at the time - and as word got around my phone began to blow up with people asking for details. As this snowballed - a mixture of my own jokes - and the chitter chatter I was never around for - dubbed the session as the ~Secret Hoax Gig~ Ryan Lowry’s ultimate exclusionary show experience. The jokes were never funny to me, a lot of people developed opinions of me and my intentions, and the cassette was never released.
Honestly - this is one of my favorite punk recordings of the 2010′s and captures the band’s energy during my favorite period of their existence. I couldn’t stand letting these files sleep on my computer any longer because of some silly punk scene chitter chatter. Spread it far and wide.
