The Moon and The Stars                   in         the Seaspray Poem by Anna Athey Performance and translation by Cheyenne Bates Running with Unicorns I dreamed of their bright mains flying in the wind I see moon and stars light shines down water surface we race wet and cold fine nothing free like this head horns throw back throw back my head scream scream silent these silent creatures with Original Version I dream of running with the unicorns I see their bright mains flying in the wind Reflected light from the moon and the stars Burst into spray kicked up by Silver hooves As we race across the waters surface I don’t even mind the wet and the cold For nothing, els is so freeing as this And as they throw their heads back, horns a glow I throw my own along with them and scream A silent scream with these silent creatures

Excuse me  I’m not sorry  By Anna Athey  “I’m sorry, I’m blind”  ‘Why do I say that?’  So I hit them with my cane, big deal  I didn’t hurt them, I didn't do it on purpose  I’m supposed to hit them, that's how I know that they are there  Otherwise I would walk into them and that would be worse  ‘Excuse me,’ not ‘I’m sorry.’  That’s what I should say  But I’m always apologizing  Even though it’s not my fault  It’s not my fault that I can’t see  It’s not my fault I bump into people   It’s not my fault I have to ask someone to read a sign to me  So why do I say, “sorry!” When I should be saying “Excuse me”?     Why do I feel responsible?   I didn’t build this world  I didn’t make it so inaccessible  Should I just sit at home so I don’t have to worry about inconveniencing anyone?  No                                                Five minutes later I bump into someone else.                                               “Oh, I’m sorry.” I say... AGAIN  

 When I imagine what it would be like to be self-sufficient, I imagine it would mean that I would be  Strong enough to do what I need to do.  Both physically and  Emotionally. Feeling strong is as important as being strong. It’s  Liberating to not be dependent on others.  Nothing compares to the feeling of having the  Freedom to live my life on my own time and in my own way.  To have the  - Security that comes with being able to rely on myself.  Not to have to worry that someone els might cancel and leave me helpless.  It also means I’m often  Underestimated by those who don’t know me.  Those who assume I’m helpless and won’t give me the chance to prove them wrong.  I know I’m not helpless because even if I’m scared and don’t know what will happen next, I do know that I have a  Future. One that doesn't involve me sad and alone.  I know I will find  Fulfillment in my life because I have fulfillment in myself.  I have the power to  Illustrate my own life. Decide where and how far I’ll go.  Nothing can hold me back. I have complete Confidence in myself and that is my most important tool for building  Infinite possibilities.  I never have to ask for more because I will always be  Enough.  I can say,  “No thank you” when someone offers me help because I have a  Choice. A choice to do things with or without others rather than a necessity.  The people in my life are there because I want them to be, not because I need them to be.  and when someone asks me “can you do this?” I can say,  “Yes, Yes I can!”
