                      “ oh! they are not pets, these are my sons - “  spoken plainly, matter - of - fact, as a proud mother would. maybe a silly interpretation of their relationship, but the unicorn feels a particular kinship - beast blooded, roaming the same line of intelligent beasts. but that is an explanation that will remain untold, hidden away on a bitten tongue. if he’s unwelcoming of their presence, it’s brushed away. intentionally? perhaps, perhaps she’s still too naive to acquire an understanding of a stranger’s intent.

a ‘hm’ of consideration comes from essek, nodding lightly in something close to agreement. ❝ they have their ways about them. ❞ charming and odd and exhausting all at once were the motley crew. difficult to, truly, dislike. but he keeps his compliments sparse, even when not in their company. didn’t do well to show a hand so easily. he tilts his head a fraction. ❝ i must admit i don’t do much in the ways of enchantment myself, but i’d be glad to take a look at your projects and perhaps be of some use. ❞ an expression half way to a smile tilts at his mouth, a little strained. essek could certainly use a distraction. 

fondly: “ yeah, they do. ” he straightens up to his full eight; eight foot is nothing to shake a stick at, but then, that’s why the shop has ceilings at twelve foot, so that he’s never in chances of bumpin his head. and what if he got a centaur or a goliath in here. plus, he reckons it feels nice and expansive for everyone small, too. he pulls back the jointed section of his countertop, opens it up for essek to come through: “ come on this way. do all the enchantin in my room, hafta ask ya to excuse the bed. ”

“ oh, i - no, that’s just me, ” and pumat prime jerks a thumb over his shoulder, “ and me, and me and me - ” as the simulacrums come filin on outta the back and down the stairs and fill the room, all four of them, all eight feet tall. “ besides, none’a these guys can hold a dang tune. ”

“ nah. ” the tone’s not dismissive. actually kinda comes off very haha what do you mean for a single syllable that doesn’t even count as a word - he knows that, he feels that. he re-arranges homemade teacups and clay spoons on the tray behind the counter of his shop, glad he can go on and have a fiddle with them whilst he figures out what all excuse he could even come up with. “ well, maybe a lil nervous, yanno ? ”

he ‘feels’ kinda middle-aged — especially when we first met him. i’d say he’s felt younger since matt kinda started leaning into pumat being a little goofier lately. for a firbolg, that’d put him around 200 years old, easily - which is fine, that’s pretty cool

but the problem with this concept is the following things

firstly: firbolgs reach adulthood around 30 years old. they do not age at the same rate as humans, and it’s not really possible to equate them. you can, but the facts are that even though age-wise caduceus is equivalent to someone in his 20s, caduceus is a full grown adult from a completely separate, non-human and often heavily coded as nonwhite community. he’s not the same emotional age as beau, jester, etc.

so, with that in mind, back to pumat ...

* pumat learned under oremid hass, who is currently in his 50s. genasi have the same lifespan as humans. * pumat’s only been running the invulnerable vagrant for 12 years. 

in my opinion, that means pumat has only been kicking around as an enchanter for a maximum of 20 years. he can’t have been doing it for much longer or it would have been completely unreasonable for oremid to be the one teaching him.

this doesn’t mean pumat CAN’T be around 200 years old, but it raises a lot of questions about what he was doing before learning under oremid hass and joining the assembly. time doesn’t go any faster for him - that’d be 180 years of activity unexplained and unchecked.

so i find it more likely, honestly, that pumat is probably in his early 100s. that gives him plenty of time to reach adulthood, fuck up being an adult, get kicked out of his clan and make his way to the cities before being scooped by the assembly.

FULL NAME.     pumat sol NICKNAME / ALIAS.     the pumats GENDER.     ostensibly masculine but im honestly not really a believer in gender HEIGHT.     8ft AGE.     does anybody know ZODIAC.     unfortunately, no LANGUAGES.    common, elvish and giant; he can also talk to plants and animals, but he doesn’t know what they say back.

HAIR COLOR.     dark brown, thick and coily.  think daveed diggs EYE COLOR.      dark brown with flecks of gold SKIN TONE.       brown-grey-blue-ish, he’s furry though BODY TYPE.     chunk. like - traditional bear body; on the side of heavyset and very hairy. ACCENT.     i’d love to know what region of exandria he’s from to sound like this but, his accent leans heavily on both canadian stereotypes and the minnesota nice VOICE.     very deep, incredibly bassy, but soft and kind. he has a booming laugh.  DOMINANT HAND.     i think he’s right-handed POSTURE.    a little hunched, as such really tall people tend to be. he’s very upright with strangers - best foot forward and all that - and has good battle posture, but when he’s relaxed his shoulders roll forward some. SCARS.     lots and lots of clumsy scars and enchantment scars. not a lot from real, serious battle - well, not until the latest ep ... TATTOOS.     none ... that we know of ... booty tattoo. im calling it BIRTHMARKS.       MOST NOTICEABLE FEATURE(S).

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT.      firbolgs are very involved and sweet community families; i suspect pumat was raised by the whole village as much as he was raised by his parents.
