How can i be a better director for my game?
I received this question last night from a friend who works in game development. He has a team formed, but lacks engagement from his community.
Here's my response after aaa caaareful consideration:
In my opinion, the key to becoming a good creative director is to have people who are genuinely interested and, of course, to show them what's happening. When it comes to volunteer helpers, most people who initially support your idea are eager to help, but 60% of the time, it's just hype.
There will, however, be incredibly talented individuals who see your project as a key to their own growth, and those are the people you need to value. Maintain daily contact with them, not just in a work capacity, think of them as companions throughout the entire journey.
Sooo open your door to friendship and give them a real chance to become great friends!
I can attest to this, as the people helping me with LUMINEBULA are wonderful and incredibly talented (btw a big hug to you all!) Also, avoid overwhelming these people, preventing confusion (though language differences may occasionally cause some specific issues), and maintaining respect and a positive attitude.
YOU ARE in charge, so ensure every moment is incredibly enjoyable for each member.
I've also noticed that a lack of unique creativity can hurt the team. Sometimes you might fall into the trap of the "obvious," and your game can become a shadow-of-another-game (a game that initially only wanted to be inspired by a more famous game but ultimately became a mere copy).

Luminebula might seem Under-like at first; in fact, Lunnie's sprite resembles Kris's sprite from Deltarune (I recently received this feedback), and that's not necessarily a bad thing, as long as you have the creativity to make your project unique. Create beautiful scenes, captivating stories, where just reading the concept makes you want to delve deeper. Develop new and fun mechanics.
As a final thought, I'll leave you with a quote from Victor Schiavon (Yun Li) from the song "Going Home" from the album Validation:
"And I look like them, but I don’t follow them
I have sad examples with a role like this one"
"E eu pareço eles, mas não sigo eles
Tenho еxemplos tristes com um papel igual еsse"
