David never really understood or appreciated Mother’s Day. He obviously loved his mother, but he never understood how much it really meant. It all changed when he met Y/n. She was amazing and became a light in his life. She was the woman that he wanted to bring home to meet his family. She was the woman that he wanted to start his own family with.

That’s exactly what they did. It was a couple years into their relationship when Y/n got pregnant. They were surprised, but couldn’t be more thankful. It was a trying nine months between filming, cravings, and the overall effect of having a child.

The day that Y/n gave birth easily became both of their favorite moments. They welcomed a baby boy into their life. They’ve been parents for a few months by the time mother’s day rolls around.

Y/n didn’t think about how different it would be this year. Now she is a mother, she gets to be celebrated too.

“What do you want for mother’s day?” David asks as they both lay in bed. His hand is slowly running through her hair.

“I just want a day home with my boys. No gifts.” Y/n says with a smile, she leans in to press a kiss to his cheek.

David will make sure that she gets what she wants, but he isn’t going to leave it at that. She is constantly working whether it be helping him film, collaborating with friends, or taking care of their child. He knows that she deserves more than he can give her even if she doesn’t want any material gifts.

A couple days pass and it’s finally Sunday.

“Good morning, baby.” David greets, waking up the love of his life with kisses all over her face.

“G-morning.” She mumbles back still sounding sleepy. She presses a kiss to David’s lips before falling back on the bed.

“Stay here.” David instructs before quickly running out of the room. Y/n sits up trying to see where he went, but settles back down knowing better than to fight David on whatever he’s up to.

“Happy Mother’s Day!” David’s voice pulls her attention, she sits up and looks over to the door. David is walking in, one hand around your child and the other holding a plate.

“Baby, you didn’t.” She feels a blush creep up on her cheeks. No matter how long they’re together she’ll never be able to get past how sweet he is.

David walks over and Y/n reaches out for their child first. She hasn’t seen him all morning which might be a record for her. David sits down on the bed and looks over to the sight on his life. His world revolves around the people he’s sharing his bed with currently.

He doesn’t even try and wipe off the grin on his face. Y/n is blowing raspberries on his stomach causing him to laugh uncontrollably. They continue for a while until Y/n focuses more of her attention back onto David.

“This really is the best, thank you.” She digs into the food.

“We have the rest of the day just the three of us.” David smiles, he takes the now empty plate and sets it on the nightstand. Y/n scoots closer to his side of the bed, their child still resting on her chest.

“I also have Anne who can come over to take some family picture, but I know you wanted to have a day just us.”

“No, that sounds amazing!” Y/n interrupts, she’s already getting excited thinking about dressing up herself and the boys. “I want to capture all of these moments. He’s already getting so big.”

They finish out the rest of their lazy morning. Spending it either in bed, all snuggling, or they play with toys on the floor. They kill a lot of time and now it’s the afternoon and Y/n is struggling to get everyone ready before the photographer gets here. She’s a long time friend so neither of them are too worried.

“Hey baby, where’s my shirt?” David asks, walking out into the living room.

“Right here.” Y/n replies while changing their son who isn’t too thrilled with having to put on clothes. Thankfully, Y/n is dressed and ready, just waiting on her boys.

“Do you need some help?” David walks over and holds him so she can grab his pants. Instantly at the shift he starts crying.

“Hey, there’s no crying here. We’re gonna take pictures!” Y/n leans forward and pinch his cheeks. He stops for half a second and begins wailing all over again. David turns him towards himself and starts tickling lightly all over. This is always a solution to getting him to calm down. His loud giggles start filling the room.

It sounds like a melody to both parents in the room. Without even having to discuss it, they both lean in and press a kiss to his cheeks.

“Well, looks like we’re starting this off great!” They all look over to Anne who seemed to have just captured the moment.

They finish getting dressed and head outside to the yard. They take pictures until there’s tears, that’s when they decide to call it a day and they send their boy off for a nap. Anne quickly downloads all of the photos so she can give them to them.

“Thank you.” Y/n smiles as she walks Anne to the door.

“Anytime. I would love to come over and take pictures of your gorgeous family.”

She leaves right after that and we’re left just the three of them again. I don’t think anyone is complaining about that though.

“Hey, what are you doing? It’s Mother’s Day!” David is obviously referring to the fact that Y/n is cooking on what should be a day for her.

“What? Did you want to Postmate something?” Y/n asks with a tease. David bites back a smile, he knows that he can’t cook. This morning was a rarity.

“Well… no. But- maybe?”

“It’s fine, I wanted to cook.” She smiles and presses a fast kiss to his cheek to reassure him.

“Did we get any good pictures?” Y/n asks once she notices that David sat down at the counter.

“Yeah, they all look great. I actually have a favorite.”

“Really? I wanna see.” Y/n turns away from the sauce that is simmering to look at him.

“You’ll see it later.” He smiles.

The two of them enjoy their meal and put on a movie after. Y/n finally goes to grab her phone for the first time that day. She notices a notification that @daviddobrik has tagged her in a post.

Daviddobrik: Thank you so much to the woman I owe everything to. You are the strongest person I know and you made it possible for me to be a father. You make me a better person everyday, and I don’t know what either of us boys would do without you. Thanks for being our girl. Happy Mother’s Day to the best mom out there

“Baby, you are too sweet to me.” Y/n walks out of the bedroom to see David still on the couch. She can’t help the couple of tears sliding down her face.

“Hey, don’t cry.” David holds open his blanket for her to get in. She doesn’t even hesitate so slid in on top of him. They lay like that for a while, David running his hand softly on her back until a soft cry interrupts both of them. Y/n moves to get up, but David slides out from underneath her before she can.

He comes back to the living room, baby tucked in his arm. David resumes his spot, Y/n laying on one side of his chest with their child on the other.

This is the best part of the whole day in Y/n’s opinion. Everything about today was perfect and amazing, but this is the best. This is life. Laying here together isn’t going to last forever so they are going to take in every moment that they can.

“Happy Mother’s Day.” David whispers.
