"For your information, she sometimes decides to join me, but your assumption definitely makes me wonder about your concept of marriage."
"The couple that jogs together…" Emmett trailed off with a shrug.
"What? A late-night jog doesn’t hurt."
"Marriage is already running you out of the house?"
"What do you expect me to say to that?"

"Can I interest you in an inflatable doughnut? Or shall I join you on land?" She didn’t voice how happy she was to see him, but her smile said enough. After what happened, she was glad that she had kept him to herself.
"You can join me over here. I'm not what people are looking for in the pool."
Lounging on a floatie in the middle of the pool Gigi sipped a glass of peach Bellini while bathing in the artificial lights of the Lagoon. Everything was going to be alright, as long as she kept pretending it already was. “Like you see?” She chimed, catching the eye of someone waiting on the side.
Emmett's lips curled up in a hint of amusement, wondering how she managed to look both completely at home while also seeming like she didn't belong at all. He didn't voice that, he rarely did. "Sure."
Look, all I’m saying is I got some ideas and you’re not gonna be thinking those things about me when you see those pictures!

"Is it yours? Then I could possibly understand the frustration."
"No, it'll be tedious though." Pausing, Emmett looked up at her. "Interested in coming?"
"That doesn’t sound like the greeting I normally get. What’s wrong?"
"I'm going to a wedding tomorrow."
Emmett raised his eyebrows at the invitation in his hand placing it down on the table with a resounding sigh.
"Maybe you are not playing your part, Emmett, but I am. I think it would make a big difference," Felicity rose from her seat. She stood in front of him, as if height marked the contrast she was talking about. She liked being able to overpower everyone.
"It will be. I’m working on it. What are you doing? Have you asked yourself that? Do you want to live regretting everything just like your father? Do you even care, Emmett?”
Emmett tilted his head up as Felicity stood, no other sign of intimidation on his face. One thing he had never been afraid of was his mother, she didn't care enough to be someone who could easily intimidate him.
Still, he couldn't help the flinch after the comparison to Dante. He wasn't his father, he had tried very hard for so many years to set himself apart from the man he so often was compared to. The mere notion that he might end up like him was enough to cause Emmett's hands to clench into fists as he kept them at his sides.
"No, if you would like the honest account, I don't care very much. Though I fail to see what part I should be playing. The Darlings aren't setting a very high precedence to match."

"Why? Would you prefer me to leave?" Felicity was taken aback — why would Emmett care about the current state of affairs? She had never shown any interest; not when it came to them. A cutting reply seemed like the correct thing to say; he wouldn’t be affected by it.
"What makes you think I am not happy? I think that’s a subjective topic. Dante is my husband. You and Renee are my children. This place is our home."
"If you stayed or didn't, it wouldn't make much of a difference." He didn't speak to be harsh, merely pointed out a true reality of their lives. The Blackwells didn't overlap. Not anymore.
"This place isn't our home. It's where you and Dante met but it isn't a home. Renee and I barely speak here, you spend every night at an office, and Dante is out trying to forget the last twenty years of his life."
"Perhaps because my concept of having fun is different to yours," she was often subjected to reproach for preferring her work to spending time with her family.
"Did I answer your question, Emmett?" Felicity knew her son, and she didn’t expect him to extend the conversation unnecessarily.
"No." He replied matter-of-factly. He shouldn't have expected otherwise though, Felicity was never one who he could fully figure out. He may have grown up with the woman but she was, as she always had been, a stranger.
"Why are you still here? I don't mean in Neverland, but in this house. In this life. You're not happy, Dante is rarely here. Renee and I are grown. Is it obligation?"
