what are your thoughts on... Genwel... (I ain't typing all that)
Weirdly enough I only see hate for the guy and I just don't get it.
First off, I think the fans who were expecting galacta to be the final boss were hyping themselves up too much over something they knew wasn't going to happen. As cool as it would have been, the forgotten land isn't about him.
It's about the ancients and their ancient past, why they left their planet in the first place, which was fear of Genwel.
Second, what is wrong with him? He is canonically facto's older brother (although Nintendo does have a history of making female characters male in localizing, so he could be a girl.)
And personally, I love his design and I'm upset that almost to no one has made any art of him!

Really? I've seen almost equal amount of hate and love for genwel but i want to get the galacta thing done first
Personally, i didnt want galacta knight to appear in the slightest, i really didnt want him in there, like you said, forgotten land isn't about him.
Tough, i do not now where you got the “genwel being the reason they left” thing from? The figures do not state it was genwel, the reason i knew was overpopulation, unless i missed something. And, twinkling star showers doesnt imply it was genwel either. Edit: i understand now that you probably got it from the whole meteor thing, but i still think it was originally overpopulation but the threat of genwel made them want to leave even more. Also i have some things to say abt this meteor thing too.
The “he is canonically fecto’s brother” is really funny to me because THATS one of my biggest reasons to dislike him, i dont think ive ever said it publicly bc i get shy about sharing my opinions but i strongly hate the idea of fecto elfilis having an species, family or anything like that. It kinda ruins the ultimate life-form/perfect being thing for me, and that was one of the things the dlc could have done that i was dreading. Edit: warmed up to the guy a bit but i still strongly dislike this. If they add a third sibling or reveal they’re an entire species and not only lis and genwel i MIGHT riot /hj
He also feels out of nowhere, i can only think of like one or 2 things that foreshadow him and those honestly feel like a stretch, and that one is the giant-impact attack (who shares the name with the cutscene for the start of genwel’s phase 2) and even tho its just a phantom duplicate unlike genwel who physically gets bigger, it still makes genwel’s less interesting, because i have already seen something similar this also leads into another one of the biggest problems i have with him
He feels like a Fecto Elfilis 2.0 with a bit of chaos elfilis sprinkled in.
That is to say, he doesnt feel unique enough, it feels like a copy paste, and combined with how incredibly easy his fight was for me, it quickly became boring, he lacks an identity. And also weirdly enough despite being so strongly associated to jewels and crystals he barely tends to use them, chaos elfilis does more cool and crystal stuff with genwel’s spear, Ares, than Genwel himself does with it.
There is also the incredible disappointment he was with a misunderstanding i had.
The little section before you fight him. Its amazing, its so incredible, it was probably the fastest my heart has ever beaten (genuinely) i was so scared and excited, i was dreading what it would happen because it could make or break me. My favorite part of the dlc 100%
It was. It was disappointing. But it was worse because, i tought it was fecto elfilis again.
Because of that section, the character must be connected to lab discovera, so it would have either been fecto forgo (wich i was leaning to bc of the previous cutscenes) neichel or fecto elfilis or a new character.
So i obviously tought it was fecto elfilis, in a new crystal form.
And well, you see, i am incredibly attached to fecto forgo and the insinuation of fecto forgo and fecto elfilis being the same being (like, fecto forgo not being separate from fecto elfilis like elfilin is) can edit: This is where i left of originally, so im gonna try to continue what i think i was gonna say bc i kind of don’t remember.
I have also not said this publicly before but i absolutely despise the idea of forgo = elfilis, i mean in the sense that elfilin gets treated like a separate entity from elfilis but forgo doesn’t they get relegated to underpowered elfilis/ugly elfilis and that annoys me (honestly this weird kind of double standar between of elfilin and forgo get treated annoys me), i think there is a lot of potential to viewing it as forgo ≠ elfilis, i could make a post explaining this if you want but i gotta get back on track with genwel.

Because i tought they were implying that forgo is just fecto elfilis in another less powerful body. I calmed down after i realized that wasn’t the case but it left a bitter taste in my mouth.
Nowadays i have actually came around to genwel and don’t hate him so much! But he still pisses me off the mere fact he even exists but yeah, i either gotta learn to accept him or just get rid of him in my au which i occasionally consider.
I think his design is nice now, i really like the wings and the ribcage thing going on, i dont get why his eyes look in different directions tho. And it still creates reject on me in general like i kind of can’t bring myself to fully like the guy, but at least i can like him like idk a 60% now rather than the 1% of before.
I find his story stupid, he comes years after they imprision lis and the humans left so there’s no point in whatever he is doing, he also get unsealed only to immediately get resealed lmao what a fucking loser.
There was a TON i wanted to say when i originally started writing this but i forgot most of it. I could talk about this game for hours so don’t hesitate to send another ask if you want! I’ll try to not take like half a year to answer again.
Also almost forgot to say! I've been drawing him quite a lot and made a gijinka for him! i just didnt post them for some reason
