Archer sat at the other end of the table, scrolling on his phone and eating his burger. He had a second helping sitting on a tray next to him, which likely led the girl to believe it wouldn’t be eaten. “Oh, Ember, hi!” He said, glancing over and setting down his phone. “It’s Archer, from the lake.” He added, noticing that she didn’t remember his name. “That’s actually my second meal. I have a big appetite.” He said, chuckling slightly. “But I’m sure we can find something good to feed your plant.”

oh no, he remembered her name and she hadn’t even tried to remember his. she felt more lucky that he had said it or she’d be lost. ember was the worst which might have been a compliment where she came from but not here.”right, i remember, with the horse. ho have you been?” she asked only a bit sad he was planning on eating his food. “wait... you eat all that food, are you bulking up?” she laughed with him only to nod. “that could be fun, he likes bugs. maybe we can go out on a walk later and collect some. after you eat of course.” 

looking over at the boy she found looked questionably familiar as she easily forgot faces and names and smiled. “hey, kid. you going to eat that? i have a plant in my dorn that would swallow it whole if you’re not. best not let it go to waste, right?”

Archer smiled at the girl standing near him, surprised she’d even noticed his horse. “Her name is Angie. She came with me from home, I couldn’t bear to leave her there. We’ve grown up together.” He said, closing his eyes for a moment and thinking back to the day Angie was born. He opened his eyes after a few moments and ushered for Ember to sit with him. “What brings you out here today? It’s pretty far from school.”

“oh, i was able to bring a few of my pets here with me too.” she said smirking as she thought of the spider who spooked one of the other students. she grinned but then sat beside him. "I just needed a place to relax."

Finley was hanging onto every word she said, all the kings he knew, his father and grandfather, were stuffy and boring. definitely not scary nor nightmare like.  “Wow.” He murmurs, silently wishing he had a chance to meet this Jack fellow. “We do, it’s just … different?” He doesn’t know how to explain it properly. 

He nods at what she says, he probably would be the same way if he was from Halloweentown. “Well, for starters i’m a mermaid – er, merman, and when we visit my grandfather in his kingdom under the sea we have our own types of holiday’s.” He explains, “I grew up mostly on land, in Atlantica. Our purpose is just to make sure things go smoothly, I guess?” Finley scratches the back of his head. You would think the heir to throne would know exactly what his kingdom does, but Finley was drawing a blank.  

“We aren’t in charge of holiday’s, we just throw grand balls during celebrations.”

just as much as finely was interested, so was ember...only she didn’t let it show. she stuck to a straight face and rose her brows. all this otherworldly thing seemed so strange to her, hard to grasp at times which was exactly why she let the smart people stick to all that mumbo jumbo. “at least here we get halloween, it’s going to be great i hope.” 

now mermaid she knew and her eyes light up. “an ACTUAL merman? like with a big beautiful tail?” embers love of color was strange for someone in halloween town but she wanted to see something actually gorgeous. “you wouldn’t happen to know the swamp monster would you? he’s alright but just the ugliest shade of green ever.” she told him and tilted her head. to think of haloweentown not being the lead of something but everything? it seemed impossible.” 

“Interesting..” He murmurs, he never knew a town was responsible for the preparation of a holiday. “Jack..?” He cocks his head, the name’s unfamiliar to him of course, but assumes he’s also in charge. By the look on her face he can tell the man is well respected and most be of importance. 

“That’s so fun! In Atlantica it’s hard to celebrate holiday’s, but on land it’s less complicated.” It’s been attempted, his grandfather had tried to incorporate human holiday’s to appease his daughter and Finley, but the decorations just didn’t work out. That’s why they kept the celebrating on land. “I have to say Halloween is my favorite holiday, so thank you for your hard work.” Finley adds, thinking of the grand Halloween ball thrown every year. “So one break a year? Must be annoying I assume.” 

“he’s like our king...he is our king. every yeah the pumpkin king goes out and makes halloween what it is. he’s the scariest and most nightmare inducing guy, like ever.” she said sounding like all the other witches that drooled over him. “wait...so...you don’t celebrate things where you’re from? that must get boring.”

“well, if you work like the mayor does... but come on im not going to spend every second dripping my work into one night. i have my own fun with my potions. maybe when im some old hag i’ll spend more time at it...i don’t know. but i don’t get it...what is atlantis for exactly? does it have a purpose? christmas town had christmas...was atlantis a holiday? no...she was sure it wasn’t. but then again other royals seemed to come from strange towns...ember was just lucky to wrap her head around all of this.

He’s surprised at her reaction, raising a brow of his own. “Uh, Atlantica.” Finley was used to people recognizing him as the famous Ariel’s son, he supposes this is one of those humbling moments. Though his doesn’t mind, he’s gained a rather scandalous reputation and it’s almost refreshing that someone doesn’t already know his name. 

“Oh wow.” He’s never met a werewolf or vampire, or at least he doesn’t think he has. He’s heard tales, but never had the pleasure of meeting them. Finley can’t help but be a little jealous of her. “Perfect. So in Halloweentown, do you celebrate Halloween year around?” He asks. Finley has a feeling it’s a dumb question and he’ll probably be jealous if the answer is yes, but he needs to know. 

flicking her head a bit the red head managed to toss her hair across her shoulder. she’d never heard of it so there, they were even. “doesn’t ring a bell.” she quipped and placed her hands on her hips momentarily.  though she was slightly more curious to find out just what frights might she find there.  his attention toward her was almost dangerous as ember lived for it at times. she thought over the question, making her face twist it’s... kind of less of a celebration everyday and more...of a preparation. we spend each and every second making sure everything goes to mayor’s exact plans...oh and jack’s of course.” she said wiggling a brow at the name of the pumpkin king’s name. even she couldn’t deny he could rattle a few bones. “we have a huge countdown and on halloween we make sure it’s better than the last.” she then rolled her eyes. “we only really give halloween a break on christmas ever since jack had some great big discovery of the strange holiday.” one she didn’t prefer as much as halloween. 

Finley jumps at her raised voice, rubbing slightly at his ears. “I haven’t actually.” He’s heard of Halloween, as it was a fairly popular holiday on land, one he quite enjoyed. However, Finley’s arrogance would argue his birthday was more popular, but that was by Atlantica standards. 

“Ghoulish monsters…?” He’s seen his fair share of sea creatures and ‘monsters’ that lurked on land. He wonder’s what kind of monsters were unknown to him from Halloweentown.  “Fascinating.” His curiosity was screaming at him to ask more. Finley knows he has a class he has to attend, but he’d rather pick this strangers brain instead. “I have so many questions, I hope you’re ready to have your ear talked off.” 

she felt her mouth part slightly a little more shocked than she had really planned on being. “that’s...stupid.” she quickly replied in a bratty way she felt like she came from the best place ever and now she finds out some boy hasn’t even heard of it. with a roll of her eyes she huffs. “and where are you from then?”

“uh huh, werewolf, clown, the vampire brothers. all the bumps in the night too.” she plainly stated sighing sadly as she missed the creaking that came from her closet. in this world there was nothing to haunt her as she slept. she shrugged though. “sure, i have at least two hours before my next class...” 

His puzzled look becomes more puzzled, if that’s even possible. At this point he’s afraid his face will stick. “Halloween – what?” He tries to recall all the countries he’s visited or at least learned about. Halloweentown is definitely not on that list. He’s almost certain she’s making it up, but then again, anything was possible at Drearwood. Finley was mermaid of all things, he knows he shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss something he’s never heard of.

 “Oh, alright.” Weirdly enough, he finds himself feeling relieved a spider would forgive him. “So, in Halloweentown, this – this is a normal occurrence?” He finds himself asking, no longer confused nor frightened. If anything, his curiosity has peaked. 

clearing her throat she figured the boy was just dim of hearinging and cupped her hand around her mouth to ampliphy her voice. “halloweentown! you have heard of it haven’t you?” she asked curious now to know if they celebrated halloween where he was from. “the best of the best come from there, every ghoulish monster you can dream of.” she tried to see if that would help him remember her hometown.  

“this? you mean... things like mavis? oh of course, like i said. no one is afraid of spiders. and i use her to help me at times. a little bit of spider web can be used in a pinch for some potions and the fresher the ingredient, the better sometimes. 

“…Yeah, it’s literally the worst.” Finley had a puzzled expression on his face, unsure how this was just normal her for. Then again, he’s gotten some odd looks of his own talking about his dinglehopper’s. This was just her own version of a dinglehopper and he shouldn’t be so quick to cast judgement. “Right right..” He mutters, in a way it did make some sense, still odd to him, but it was probably normal for her. “I uh, I am actually. No offense to Mavis, but they just creep me out.” You’d think someone who’s swam with sharks wouldn’t be afraid of anything, but there was just something about spiders that made him nervous. 

ember had seen some scary things in her life; the perfume saleswoman at the mall and mimes...they gave her the chills but to think her spider was anything but adorable seemed to fly right over her head. she just easily forgot that where she came from scares were everyday occurrences, nightmares were what she hoped to have before falling asleep. “right... i keep forgetting im not in halloweentown anymore, sorry. spiders there...they don’t scare people at all. we think a new home without them it more terrifying.” she said. as she jotted down on her hand the quick note she had originally planned on remembering on the back of her hand. “im sure she can forgive you though... this time at least.” 

Panic fills Finley, he can’t remember if he’s eaten a peach recently and he really hopes he hasn’t. “I don’t uh – I don’t think so?” He squeaks, holding the spider as far away from his body as he could. He turns to see what she’s looking for, hopeful it isn’t another spider or creature she has tucked away in her purse. “I –” He doesn’t question it, just plops the spider back into her bag. He wipes off his hand quickly, still shocked at what just happened. “You keep a spider in your purse?!” Finley blurts. 

she nodded at him and closed the bag only to let it fall at her side again and hold out her pen, “don’t you hate it when these little guys just hide away on you?” she shook her head and scowled at the object in her hand only to look up at him with a raised brow. “uh... of course i do. where else would i keep her?” ember scoffed with a subtle laugh not knowing where the confusion was coming from. “ghouls, i can’t keep her in my pocket, i’d squish her.” she then laughed. loving thing fright coming from him, certainly her mother would be proud. “you should have heard your scream, you’re not like, afraid of spiders are you?” remember that for the future tricks if she needed to. 

“Huh? Oh sure.” Finley had been had been standing beside the stranger, scrolling through his phone. Keeping his eyes glued to the cellular device, he extends his free hand, only looking up when he felt something odd on the palm of his hand. Finley glancing over, letting out a small scream. There was a spider on his hand. “I’m sorry – lose an arm?” Finley pales, hoping she was just kidding. 

“well, of course. their poison rapidly runs through the bloodstream and the bite creates a festering sore that grows up and in the end pretty much rots the flesh. but, like i said as long as you don’t touch her back...oh...and you haven’t had any peaches recently, have you? she hates peaches.” ember giggled before pulling in her whole arm through the tiny purse and gasping. “ah ha! there it is!” she finally pulled out her favorite pink feathered pen. then looked at the boy. “okay, plop her back in there. you alright? it looks like you’ve seen something frightening.” then a devilish snicker stretched across her pale face as she held open the bag for him to put her things back. 

“now where did that pen go? crazy little thing always getting away from me, i swear...ohhh pen.” ember called inside her bag as she began to rummage through the powder pink handbag that was much bigger on the inside. she pulled out a few bits and bobs and when they were too much for her to hold and also dig through her bag she looked up and just handed everything over to the literal first person she saw standing next to her. “hold this for a second, will you?” not really giving the option to the other person at all. “oh...and don’t touch mavis’ back she will bite and pumpkins if i have to deal with another person losing an arm because of her...i swear.” not even paying attention who she had just simply handed a live spider to in the slightest. 

With a precision in her fingers, the mist of black magic falling from her hands moved each and every object towards the mannequin that had a mere few pieces of black and red fabric along its sides. Nora’s tongue stuck out slightly on her left side as she focused, stitching and pleating layer by layer on the left side only to let the right side fall mystically under layers of chiffon and puffed tulle. Focusing her direction to the already crafted poof that would sit on the shoulder, the scissors, needle, and thread slowly fell to the ground, but the sound of footsteps merely shifted her face, but not her focus. “Sorry, I’ll be out of your way soon! I’m working on some absolutely horrifying looks for the after party,” which was, of course, a compliment to her kind, “Were you looking for me to whip something up for you? I’ve got time!”

ember frowns at the dress moving forward and slightly shiving nora out of the way to get a closer look. “oh…absolutely not. i mean… even this is just…not great, dreadful actually and not in the good way. ugh. why the red…where is the pink?” ember asked finally looking over at the fabrics. as much as she tried her love for the color always won her over and well, she was sick of everything having to be so dark and dreary like where she was from. as much as she missed home this place had it’s colors she loved.
