Chapter 2 âThe Sylphid Swarmâ
âWhen a baby laughs, a fairy is bornâ
-Unknown Narrator from Tinkerbell (Opening)
Across Elriosâand even the human worldâa freak windstorm breaks out. Trees uprooted, skirts flying, random feather storms in villages. Human ran in many directions, bumping each other. The uprooted trees in another human world blocked main roads in the cities. Some women screamed when they could not keep their hair and skirt intact, some non-avian animals flew and some calm and logical people rushed to seek shelter to protect themselves.
These messy situations were detected in the El Tower, alerting El Masters and urging them to hold emergency meeting amongst their rank. All camera screens in the main tower turned red with âWARNINGâ word appearing and blinking.
âWhatâs happening? Moments ago everything was fine,â muttered Gaia.
âNewborn Pixies and SylphidsâŚâ said Solace matter of factly.
âWhy are they swarming like that? Who will handle them?â asked Rosso.
âI am thinking to use my moon dome,â Harque initiated.
âNot a chanceâŚâ deadpanned Solace. âThere is a chance you will worsen the situation,â the El Master of The Sun added.
âOh? So, you know the solution?â
Before anyone continued talking which might lead to a long debate, Denif and Ventus appeared.
âI will take care of these children of the wind. Theyâre my responsibility. This trouble was caused by hundreds of newborn Pixies and Sylphids were born from the laughter of babies across dimensions. These wind elementals are tiny, LOUD, full of tricks, and untrained,â said Ventus, he stayed at the door way.
âYouâll need backup,â said Denif, pausing his pace midway into the El main tower.
âNo...only I can understand their dialect. And their mischief,â said Ventus, reassuring.
âAll right. You may go, but please return in one piece,â said Denif sighing, he knew that Ventus had a point.
                                               ***
Ventus glided from one place to the others. In one of city sub-urbans, Ventus chase a group of newbornpixies and sylphids were playing tricks on a group of women. Making the womenâs shrieks as an indicator, Ventus dashed to the newborns. The elemental children moved in band to escape Ventus. The chase was fast until at one point some agitated pixy babies sneezed so loudly that Ventus got blown into a bakery. Giggling, the newborn pixies and sylphids babies flew immediately.
âYou okay, Ventus?â asked a fully grown female sylphid, Ventusâs best friend.
âGet up! We need to catch up! Otherwise, they will cause another problem!â said the sylphid.
Ventus nodded and he retracked the newborns. Ventus and his companion left the bakery before human noticed their presence. After some times, he finally found them, yet againâŚThis time thenewborn pixies and sylphids babies outran him. Unbeknownst to Ventus, they divided their group into two groups. The first group managed to get his attention while the others sneaked behind him. The second group ambushed Ventus hilariously. They drew Ventusâ wings while the others bit his clothes and this surprised Ventus. In addition, to Ventusâ nightmare, another group arrived and pour him with various colors of pixie glitters.
The babies giggled and ran again.
âHey! Wait! Come back here!â
Ventus chased them again until they reached a forest near Ruben. The newborn pixies and sylphids babies apparently were smart. They hid amongst the dense of the trees. Ventus managed to tiptoed to prevent him being noticed or from alerting the babies. Ventus took deliberate paces. He looked around or even ducked when he saw the babies. However, even if Ventus was extremely cautious and watchful, some pixie babies worked together with sylphid babies behind his back. As the result, Ventusâ sylphid companion was got ambushed by sylphid babies who held her legs and arms while some naughty pixies tied his ears with vines silently.
âHuh? Why are my ears tightened?â asked Ventus mentally. He ran his fingers to his ears.
âThis isâŚâ Ventus thought a moment. ââŚa vein?â
Ventus shot his eyes upwards, finding a group of pixie babies holding vines in their tiny hands.
âVentus, help me! These babies trapped me!â yelled Ventusâ sylphid companion.
When the pixie babies about to leave, Ventus finally and immediately whistled an ancient lullaby only known by mature elves, which calmed the whole swarm. The pixie babies curled into flowers and fall asleep.
Ventus sighed and his sylphid companion could finally break free.
Sylphid floated by with a bandage in her hand. âThe cyclone babies were truly troublesome. We were lucky because we could stop them. Hopefully, some smart human can make up stories about it.â
âYeah, and letâs return to El Tower now. We need to report this. Denif must be waiting for us,â said Ventus as he activated to a portal to teleport them to El Tower. When he retuned there, he found all of El Masters, except Solace. The El Master of The Sun had returned to his personal quarter.
âWelcome back,â said Denif.
âGood job. The situation is returning to normal and the balance has returned,â added Gaia.
âYes, but I want to take a vacation after it,â said Ventus. âDealing with a swarm of newborn pixie and sylphid babies is exhausting,â he added.
âFine. Take your time,â said Denif.
