Speaking about Japanese media can we also talk about manwha (korean comic) and manhua (Chinese comics) depictions on Black and brown skin people.
You see this alot in histoical manwha where they always depicted the brown skin side character exotic, aggressive, or being able to turn into an animal and they come from the desert region. It gets worse when you have a brown skin male lead and he is shown to be aggressive and possessive meanwhile the fl is a European who is innocent and helpless.
I recommend watching a video by Ella Pastoral explaining colorism and Racism in manwha for anyone who wants tovbe informed about these depictions

Also thank you so much for the video recommendation from such an underrated channel I'm definitely gonna check it out <3 There is absolutely a way to represent Brown and Black people without reducing them to being aggressive or exotic (or always making these characters desert themed come on π). If you're going to have Brown or Black characters in your media, you can and should treat them with dignity. This is one of the reasons I hate certain books that get popular on TikTok too because it's the same thing with a white female main character being seen as innocent or (and I HATE this word but) demure and the male LI being "ambiguously brown" but not too much because that would alienate your audience of primarily white women!/s And if you only consume that sort of media regurgitating gender roles and racist "undertones", it will feed into your bias. I am not anti all TikTok smut books btw there is nuance to that whole conversation but this is about colorism!
