My understanding of being a minority comes from feminism and being a woman in a patriarcal society. This has been an ongoing fight throughout generations of women in the same way racism has been an ongoing fight. I empathize with Mira in this way. Relating to the kitchen in my painting is my mother. She is a Doctor and has faced many prejudices in her field because of her gender. She has also had to defend women that she takes care of when the law is against them and their bodies. She has raised me to stand up against these prejudices against women and women of color. Like Mira, art is my way of sharing the hardships of living in America in the 21st century as woman (or for Mira and many others a woman and a poc) Although our rights have been fought for, they aren’t always fair for minorities including people of color, lgbtq+ members, and women. It’s important that each one of us uses our voice to share these stories.

Final project!

Meditation is a practice that has been used for generations, for religion and spiritual practice and to reduce anxiety and stress. It is often done alone in quiet. My practice of meditation consists of myself alone with a guided voice to reduce the anxieties of life. I wanted to share that experience and teach the practice of a simple quiet moment while also taking in a new experience for myself; meditating with others.

I am very excited to cross the boundaries and become art. It is interesting that artists that seemed "mad" such as Dadaists and surrealists were the ones to create performance art. They were absolutely revolutionary in stepping over modernists thinkers boundaries and what a way to change that thinking. I am also interested in the concept that multiple pieces of work come from one situation. The fact that this type of work can only happen once is different and intriguing. I also LOVE conceptual art and putting more time into the concept and the idea of the work is very enticing to me. Reading about these performance artist inspires me a l o t. On another note I think it is crazy how in theater and opera (as stated) these live performances were so normalized but it was so revolutionary and against everything people thought art was.
