I have been in Kyiv for only two days so far, but I already feel like I should get heavily medicated because I can't get rid of that nasty feeling deep inside my chest. Every time you support a russian artist please think about the Ukrainians who are running to bomb shelters every night and the Ukrainian artists who are painting under the sound of explosions. I am so mad that we have to claw for the recognition and literally fight for our lives on a daily basis while russians get to live guilt and accountability free.

i dont think the queer community fully understands how isolating it is to be a queer slav and seeing the fucking hammer and sickle fucking everywhere

not only did our families live through the horror that was the ussr but now we gotta be reminded of that shit constantly in the community that we're supposed to share as queer people

not to mention that the ussr wasnt even communist it was just fascist. why are u communists using the symbols of fascists. it just looks like ur idolizing a fascist state.

i just inherently do not trust anyone using the hammer and sickle nor the ussr flag as symbols of their communist ideologies

As a queer person whose family had to flee China due to the shit that went down during the Great Leap Forward, only to live through 1965 and 1998 in Indonesia, I definitely relate to this. Every time, I swear to god- I see a fellow queer person but they've got hammer and sickle stuff or even a freakin. Mao Zedong bust or some shit like that amongst their belongings my hackles immediately go right up.

Like damn. I believe in the general vision, don't get me wrong. Sharing is great and billionaires bad, down with late stage capitalism, 100%! But most tankies and Lenin/Mao Fans I run into in the wild don't. Get it. The way we do. It's theory to them, it's generational trauma to us.

It was an operation performed by our police which involved creating a massive database of queer people, they would track those people down, force them to sign documents, provide fingerprints, make confessions, denounce their partners or colleagues.

All for pretty obvious reasons, to have blackmail material on them. Fortunately communism fell a few years later.

I dont care about people saying "oh, the crimes of the communist parties are not equivalent with values of communism, which means they werent communist and cannot claim hammer and sickle as only their own is why its completely alright to use the symbol!"

Shut up. Just shut up. The crimes against humanity are supposed to overwhelm anything remotely positive. The symbol is equivalent with China and USSR, and you are NOT taking it from them. It is impossible. You ARE showing your support for these regimes when you use it, whether you want to or not.

You dont see right-wingers using the rainbow flag and saying "god made rainbow and it symbolizes god so im gonna use it even though im homophobic" because that is not how it works.

Change your fucking symbol, this one is taken.
