Dinosaur Jr and Easy Action at The Culture Room, Fort Lauderdale, March 29th, 2017 On the one hand, I miss living in one of the best cities in the world for seeing live independent music. Every band goes to Boston and NYC, and boy did I learn to take that for granted for 30 odd years. On the other hand, when bands do bother to book a show down here, they play venues that are half the size of where they play anywhere else. And you’ll never find a more energized crowd. No press pass douche bags in the front row trying to talk over the band (and in this case, boy would they have their work cut out for them). Just pure unbridled energy.
Opening act Easy Action were awesome, by the way. The singer joined Dinosaur in the encore to sing TV Eye. A long time ago, you might have thought about the idea of a bunch of old dudes playing hardcore and thought, "how sad." You were wrong to think that. Guys in their 20s have a really high bar to clear before listening to them complain on stage gets interesting. But you can be assured, these guys have plenty to be angry about. And they've had a lot of time to learn how to articulate it in the best way possible.
