In 2509 Celebrían wife of Elrond was journeying to Lórien when she was waylaid in the Redhorn Pass, and her escort being scattered by the sudden assault of the Orcs, she was seized and carried off. She was pursued and rescued by Elladan and Elrohir, but not before she had suffered torment and received a poisoned wound. She was brought back to Imladris, and though healed in body by Elrond, lost all delight in Middle-earth, and the next year went to the Havens and passed over Sea.

A second love for Elrond.... but what if they are mortal. They still die. But what if the plot extends to the modern / marvel universe through an architectural dig / revived hero or villain ( kinda like winter soldier ? ) ... but they don't remember Elrond at all. And Elrond has to wrestle with himself that "all mortals look alike at some point, or something. it's just coincidence."

YAVANNA IS A STRANGE NAME ONLY FOUND IN BOOKS. Elrond has never seen her in any of his strange dreams and visions, but she must be one the sage respected greatly. Still, the crown prince was never one to be fond of riddles, so he met Gandalf's puzzle with forwardness. Perhaps to provoke the wizard to more speech.

❝ A seed with a will of its own? ❞ There's a glint in his eyes. ❝ Will it grow legs too, and travel to where it desires? ❞ Elrond sighed when the sage wouldn't let him have another look. ❝ It is pretty. I can set it in a blade and it will sell for much. ❞ Of course, Elrond doesn't mean it. He was just bored.

A PIECE OF HIS HISTORY, DISPLAYED FOR ALL TO SEE. A cool, calm, silvery thing. The Prince had a strange eye on it. Unadorned in the fires and blood of his memory, the Nauglamir seemed like it could be any stranger’s jewelry.

He kept his calm, eyes ever flitting to the lady’s beside him. Elrond wanted to know how she felt about the piece, before he comments. In himself there are a thousand words, all learned from strangers who claimed to be his seniors, elders, his betters.

Yet only one line from his mother, ″ It will keep us safe. ″ not something he will ever utter in front of anyone. So when she stared at it, he offered a rare thing that no other lady has yet received; a work of his hand

Elrond tried to find some sort of approval in Celebrian’s eyes, not approval of him, but … approval of the Thing. It baffled him why she doesn’t want to meet his eyes. Mayhap, she didn’t like the Nauglamir after all. Just as well, he won’t care for it either, and he said no more of it.

But hearing Celebrian dismiss herself did not sit right with Elrond. It was not his intention for a jewelry he thought would look great on her ( like it did on his mother ) to become a thing she felt she was beneath. ❝ Many have worn it, but none survived. ❞ Elrond hugged himself as he said this, and now it was his turn not looking towards her. Loss was still such a difficult topic to broach with him. ❝ You’re all the better without it. Would you like anything else? ❞ He shrugged.

toying with the idea of dynastic Elrond. ( i mean, this is mostly my cultural background speaking )

i feel like he could be the Prince archetype who kept private forces as a backup plan. and when we see a lot of powers breaking away from Lindon and the High King being powerless to stop that. Elrond could have totes formed friendships and alliances of his own. the "nolofinwean lineage" has no hold over him, since he is descendant of nobody currently alive. Elrond is only there because of Gil-galad's word. It was plain as day at the start no?

I don't feel that there is a lot of security in that.

In this case, Lindon would have went very differently if Gil-galad makes a mistake of accepting Annatar. Anytime something goes wrong, the herald who has the loyalty of factions of the army is there to cut off the arm entirely. Noldor High Kings have fallen for less.

I just don't feel that things were Simple. or maybe it's just more exciting if it weren't simply cordial and nice and cute. Elrond is a wolf in wolf skin uwu

2am thoughts on Elrond asking qualifying questions before agreeing to a relationship :

Are you immortal?

Are you strong?

Will you be with me even if you die? Even if you had to crawl, or swim many leagues of sea?

What if you have to fight god at some point?

All very normal questions.

You know what I think its grossly under-rated in fandom? Second loves.

What it's like to love and lose and then love again. To suffer through either the death of a loved one or the death of a love you used to share. To know that loss, to know that hurt, and to still make yourself vulnerable to someone again. To love scared, to love wounded, to love anyway.

By under rated in fandom I mean so often past loves are either erased completely or downplayed like "oh yeah they weren't really in love.". I think it flattens the character. Humans are capable of so much love. Each relationship is different and you can learn from each one! And yes, there's something brave in learning to love again, something incredible romantic, why pass it by?

The glamour Elrond had casted over the ant hill not only hid it, but painted life - like foliage over sandy ground to make it indistinguishable from its surroundings. ❝ Who — Who else do you want to teach it to? ❞ Elrond does not want to come off as selfish, but a jealousy burned him suddenly. One born out of fear that another being, another child perhaps, would take Aredhel’s attention away from him. Someone she need not tolerate, someone easier to love. But to admit that out loud would be very petty of him, unbefitting of his station. A crown prince must be magnanimous, fitting the whole world into the width of his chest, or so the ministers liked to remind him.

❝ Even if you did, they will never be half as good as I am. Do not waste your time. ❞ Now, pride was a second skin, an armour of stone which Elrond wore to ward off disgusted looks and strange comments.
