A lamp is making circulate around the deity or, in this case, in front of the river, and the god is supposed to pass his purficatory blessing to the flames, and from them to the devotee.

A boat of pilgrims sails the holy waters of Ganga Ma at dawn in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The river Gange is considered the most sacred among the ones flowing in India and every day pilgrims from all over the country come to Varanasi, also known as Kashi, “the Bright”, the holy city, to bathe in his (her, since rivers are female) waters, which are supposed to relief from every pain, sufference and sin.

La Scarzuola - Montegiove (Tn) Built by the architect Tomaso Buzzi in the 60s over the ruins of a closter founded by St. Francis of Assisi, La Scarzuola is a visionary projecy that unify a theatrical vision of the world (Buzzi’s one, a sort of “prophane town”) ad the clerical life of the Franciscan monks (the “sacred town”). The complex is made as a series of theaters (seven plus the acropolis) unveiling plenty of archetypes and offering to the visitor - the user - multiple perspectives. “A flight of fantasy petrified [...] a vase of Silence.
