Mercedes  paused  at  Hyacinth’s  words,  her  breath  misting  in  the  chill  morning  air  as  she  glanced  down  at  the  frost-laced  grass  beneath  her  boots.  The  tower's  perpetual  shadow  seemed  colder  than  the  rest  of  the  world,  a  place  untouched  by  the  warmth  of  the  sun  or  the  passage  of  seasons.  Yet  here  she  was,  standing  on  the  threshold  of  a  structure  that  looked  like  ruin  on  the  outside  but  held  a  vibrant,  almost  otherworldly  warmth  within.  She  tugged  her  cloak  tighter,  meeting  his  gaze.  “I  suppose  that  means  winter  is  truly  here,”  she  said  softly,  her  voice  carrying  a  touch  of  melancholy.  “Though  I  imagine  it’s  always  a  little  colder  here,  isn’t  it?  Your  world  doesn’t  let  much  light  in.”

Her  gaze  flicked  downward,  catching  the  faint  shimmer  of  the  braid  taking  form,  each  twist  and  turn  of  the  strands  imbued  with  an  artistry  so  perfect  it  felt  surreal.  The  sensation  was  gentle,  soothing  even,  yet  each  movement  carried  a  weight,  a  significance,  as  though  the  very  fabric  of  the  cosmos  was  being  intertwined  into  her  hair.  Mercedes  couldn’t  help  but  marvel  at  the  moment,  her  breath  catching  as  she  considered  the  sheer  enormity  of  it.  She,  an  ordinary  being,  was  at  the  center  of  the  goddess’s  attention,  and  that  thought  filled  her  with  a  profound  sense  of  gratitude  that  words  could  scarcely  capture.  She  closed  her  eyes,  allowing  herself  to  simply  be  in  the  moment,  basking  in  a  warmth  that  felt  eternal.

Mercedes  turned  her  head  slightly,  her  lips  curving  into  an  amused  smile  at  Hiccup’s  awkward  attempt  to  break  the  silence.  She  was  used  to  visitors  being  overwhelmed  by  the  vibrant  splendor  of  Elisium.  The  southern  kingdom  was  famous  for  its  endless  fields  of  wildflowers  and  sun-kissed  hills,  a  stark  contrast  to  the  rugged  and  icy  lands  many  travelers  hailed  from.  Yet,  there  was  something  endearing  about  his  genuine  curiosity  and  the  way  he  tried,  perhaps  too  hard,  to  maintain  a  composed  demeanor  despite  his  obvious  discomfort.  She  couldn’t  help  but  notice  how  his  fur-lined  coat  seemed  woefully  out  of  place  among  the  light  silks  and  linens  of  the  southern  court.

"Flowery?"  she  echoed,  a  soft  laugh  escaping  her  lips.  "Yes,  I  suppose  it  is.  But  troublesome?  Not  at  all.  The  flowers  are  as  much  a  part  of  Elisium  as  the  mountains  are  of  your  homeland.  They  thrive  here,  just  as  we  do.  They  feed  the  bees,  perfume  the  air,  and  bring  life  to  the  kingdom.  To  us,  they’re  not  a  burden  but  a  blessing.”  She  paused,  glancing  at  the  meadows  surrounding  them,  their  colors  a  kaleidoscope  in  the  golden  sunlight.  “Though,  I  can  imagine  it  might  feel…  overwhelming,  coming  from  the  north.  Do  you  find  it  unpleasant?”  Her  tone  was  light,  but  her  expression  carried  genuine  curiosity.

As  she  awaited  his  response,  she  noted  the  way  his  eyes  darted  around,  taking  in  every  detail  like  he  was  trying  to  memorize  it  all.  There  was  something  refreshing  in  his  awe,  and  it  stirred  a  flicker  of  pride  within  her.  Despite  his  apparent  unease,  she  could  see  a  spark  of  wonder  in  him—a  spark  that  she  recognized  in  herself  when  she  ventured  beyond  the  familiar  comfort  of  Elisium’s  borders.
