Judas wasn’t surprised at Eleanor’s kindness in making sure he was okay, that was just the way she was. With the people that she cared about the most, she would put their needs above her own, and he was lucky to be one of the few. “No, I’m not,” he sighed wearily, “I always knew that they would come after me, revenge isn’t something that is placed on the back burner for so long. With juggling Casey’s safety on top of knowing that they were coming for me was almost too much.” Judas rubbed at his temples, he felt like he’s aged years since Isla’s introduction. “With Isla here… I have the need to watch her and watch over her, but nothing will change the fact that I failed her,” his voice almost cracked, clearing his throat before continuing, “I left her there for years while I was free.”

I’m not an idiot to ever pick a fight with him. Apparently, I picked one with his sister because he’s got one of those now.

Really the only way to explain is to tell you the story from the beginning. My father was part of a mercenary ring when my mother had died, and he took me with him. We both thought that my sister had died along with my mom, but she’d been in the hands of the mercenary ring this entire time. They… aren’t good people. I killed their leader and I managed to escape , but she’s been with them the entire time.

I never stay in one place for very long, and the ones who’re left of the ring are on their way to me. Isla escaped to give me a warning, but I still have my doubts about the whole situation. Regardless of my doubts, she’s still someone who’s been abused for years by the worst people I know.

Eleanor listened and wasn’t sure if she’d ever been as shocked as she was. This was all very day-time-television to her, and yet, that was their lives; there was nothing normal about them. She had so many questions, but she asked the most important one first: “God... Are you okay? That... that is a lot to have knocking at your door unexpectedly.”
