we've been trying to finish writing a post since last night about like. friendship test being invested in the idea that people arent innately bad because it makes sense as an extension of some of the games main themes and the themes of choice and autonomy as a whole and how all this applies to tori and nick. and ive just been thinking that the latter really does make the most dogshit use of free will ever

another reason we needed to come back to tomodachi life is because alphys undertale and verena slarpg falling in love was one of the funniest things to ever happen
sometimes im sad that slarpg didnt really grab me overall because i think the ost + verena as a villain are so so good
I already talked about how one thing I like about Verena's character is that she blurs the lines between gods/magic users and mortals/non magic users. Not only by her act of gifting magic to the people of Reverie, but also because there's a lot to her that allows you to solidly cathegorize her as human, maybe even a human from a world similar to ours, but she also has unsual attributes (immortality, magic, multiverse travel).
But another aspect of her character I really enjoy is how like, her more villainous presentation leans onto this whole image of a queen/empress/goddess, which is quite ironic considering Verena hates the gods of Reverie partially Because they think their magic gives them a right to rule over the planet and she directly calls them out for abusing their position of power.
I imagine Javis was the one who pushed this whole image of Queen Verena and The Verena Empire since he clearly more leans into the whole villainy of it, whereas Verena's conviction wavers over the course of the game and even before that, she acts pretty benevolent towards her underlings.
Y'know just, something about her acting out a revenge plan and how she's outwardly closer to what she despises and what wronged her during that misguided vengeance quest.
