the 12 zodiac signs represent archetypal energies and characteristics. in the western world, we focus a lot on the sun in the natal chart. it’s just funny because the signs seem to be expressed in a more raw and truthful way through the moon. when you think of the stereotypical traits of XYZ sign -> you’re much more likely to see that expressed by someone with that sign ruling over their moon.

an aries sun will be driven, rebellious, constantly going/creating, and youthful, but an aries moon person is the one who you’ll see yelling, getting excited, eager to spar with others, and who is always sparkling with energy.

a taurus sun will be stubborn, focused on the home, and hedonistic, but a taurus moon will be immovable, set in their ways, deeply private, and who creates their home inside themself. they *are* “home”.

a gemini sun person will have many faces, be sparkly and fun, and eager to adventure. whereas a gemini moon person will be the one who never stops gossiping, who loves to talk a lot, and who hoards memory and mementos.

a cancer sun person will move through life basing things off of their feelings, generally empathetic, and intuitive, but a cancer moon will be the one who is very psychic, over-stimulated, and sensitive to stimuli.

a leo sun will be kind, a bit vain, driven by their achievements, and generous, but a leo moon will be deeply warm, helpful, dramatic, a creative at heart, but may rely too much on admiration as a fuel source.

a virgo sun will be the workaholic, the secret hedon, the one who tends to others, the one who is sometimes robotic, but the virgo moon will express true self-control, service to others, and an emotional need for order and routine.

a libra sun will be modern, social, and able to maintain many various relationships (networking), the libra moon is much more prone to express codependency, a love for harmony and beauty, and who seeks to build multiple connections that maintain intimacy.

a scorpio sun will be secretive, extreme, self-righteous, and an advocate for their passions, but a scorpio moon will have truly hidden faces, palpable intensity, suspicion of others, and feel deep connection to the occult.

a sagittarius sun will be ever the optimist, an adventurer of their own life, a student of the universe, but a sagittarius moon will be positive at all costs, and who seems to never stop learning, their positivity is more prone to sometimes being a mask.

a capricorn sun will be a dreamer, personally powerful, domineering, and driven, but a capricorn moon is much more likely to express the “cold” nature that capricorn is often ascribed, and are more likely to feel detached from emotions, and are driven by their own nature.

an aquarius sun will be a free thinker, a rebel, the hard worker, and prefer detachment over attachment, but an aquarius moon will have a human nature, be detached from their own feelings, and more “cold” and intellectual in their expression.

a pisces sun will be a chameleon who travels through their life like a nomad, but a pisces moon will be the one who lives in denial, who lives in dreamland, who is disconnected from their earthly life, who is incredibly artistic and psychic, but overly sensitive.

✧ virgo: mercury is home in virgo, and that is certainly part of why virgo mercuries are such fantastic communicators. you know when to speak and when to listen. you are concise and clear with your words, and hardly leave anything up to interpretation. communicating well is something you take pride in. when upset you may take to criticizing others, but you make sure to apologize properly and sincerely.

✧ libra: when mercury is in libra, you look to find the middle ground in every discussion. you want to see all points of view and thoroughly discuss them. you are understanding to a fault, and often give people too many chances to explain when they’ve truly done something wrong. libra mercuries’ guilty pleasure is to gossip, but you’ll be the first to back out when someone confronts you about something being gossiped about them.

✧ scorpio: with a scorpio mercury, you communicate with feelings first. you put your heart out so people can understand exactly where you’re coming from and so they can feel comfortable letting their own emotions out. you always seek to find the truth in a situation, not wanting to base ideas off of false claims. people feel comfortable venting to you, knowing you’ll be empathetic and just as upset as they are, if not more.

✧ capricorn: when mercury is in capricorn, you initiate communication 9/10. you communicate methodically, calmly, and with a clear purpose in mind: solve the problem. others may find you cold, or hard to talk to, but you simply strive to figure things outs best as you can without letting it upset you too much. you want every part of a discussion to have a purpose, and for everyone to play their part and execute their role effectively.

✧ aquarius: aquarius mercuries are easy to talk to. you know how to keep a conversation moving, and you like to see the best in what everyone is trying to say. you communicate objectively, without a personal bias, and you are always trying to think progressively and move towards what’s best for everyone. you like to look at things logically, but you also understand some people take an emotional approach and you know to let them feel it out for themselves and then offer logical reasoning.

i encourage you to reflect on this in your own life, and take note of your specific observations. they can be life changing. here are some general guidelines i’ve noticed to be true.

part two : your true self - moon sign (some choose not to embrace these, and it leads to self hate, being your own worst enemy, and/or chaos. Some choose to embrace these things, and have healthier relationships with themselves).

aries moon - need for independence, unfiltered expression (as long as it is coming from a place of self love and not a vengeful place), and strong values to lead themselves into desired territories.

taurus moon - need for stability, creating their own sense of ownership (their home, their own possessions independent from another’s control, etc), and strong values to ensure that they are investing in their long-term security. they need to make sure they stay places/with people because they will be long-term stable companions, not because they have been in their life long-term.

gemini moon - need to explore their natural curiosity, to learn from others and from various perspectives. they need strong values to attract situations/people that bring out their witty intelligence. weak priorities/boundaries attracts situations/people that bring out their anxiety and sporradic nature

cancer moon - needs to utilize their natural intuition, to invest in developing emotional intelligence skills/communication, and strong values to feel truly emotionally nurtured and supported by themselves and their life.

leo moon - needs to give self lots of validation, pursue their heart of heart desires, and strong values to ensure that their hurt ego doesn’t overpower their heart’s need to be soft, warm, and loving.

virgo moon - needs practical structure in their everyday life, to train their inner critic to become their hype man, and strong values to ensure that they are using their energy to maintain desired outcomes rather than think of how to fix others situations

libra moon - needs warmth and kindness, to be involved in others lives, and strong values to ensure that a desire to be connected to others be respected, but to make sure they are liking who those people influence them to become. Libra moons cannot help but to reflect in one way or another, so be sure the people being reflected are what you want to emulate.

scorpio moon - needs truth and authenticity, to be motivated by raw passion. needs strong values to ensure that they don’t cross boundaries of their own or others to reach said truth and passion.

sagittarius moon - needs to experience life through first hand, rich, interesting experiences. Needs strong values to make sure that they are involved in experiences and ‘live storylines’ that don’t lead to self-destruction in the name of a ‘good story’.

capricorn moon - needs to pursue their goals full-heartedly, and to learn healthy ways to cope and push through life’s struggles. Needs strong values that balance their practicality and introducing idealism into their heart, so that they can avoid putting themselves in depressing situations and staying there because they’ve labeled it as a ‘hard fact of life one must accept’.

aquarius moon - needs to pursue intellectual expansion and viewing one’s life as an interesting experiment. they feel best when applying different theories and observations of their own to see how life can change based on their intellectual standing. needs strong values to make sure they don’t become consisently detached observers of their own life and nurture emotional attachments where needed.
