When I stopped wearing makeup this was such a big realisation for me: the little human actions and sensations I’d deprived myself of for the sake of keeping paint on my face. Being able to lick my lips, or stick my tongue out, or rub my eyes, or splash water on my face, or cry, or scratch an itch, or feel rain on my face without worrying about messing up my makeup made me realise just how much I’d been restricting myself before.

this, but also, when I stopped shaving my legs I realized that I could feel the wind on my legs, the water currents in the river and on the beach, a hand on my thigh, it's like, man, hair really is a sensory organ and I have been depriving myself.
