II. BIOGRAPHY.
TRIGGER WARNINGS: Accident, paralysis and depression.
Eden Noelle James was something of a quiet child, since birth. Even as a baby she hardly ever cried. Though she was very happy, the continuous smiles and giggles didnât stop the worry her parents held. She seemed content to play alone, but both her mother and father hoped sheâd grow out of that. Their miracle baby was destined to be their only baby, so they tried to walk that fine line of protective versus overbearing. One day the small family of three were sitting in front of the television when a commercial came on with dancers and some form of pop-hip hop song. A teeny three year old Eden jumped from her seated position on the floor and began to dance along. She laughed and moved to the music, and even as the commercial faded into the program theyâd been watching, the little girl kept moving. âDance it isâ, her mother thought.
Ballet was the first choice that came to Evelyn Jamesâ mind, but she quickly learned that tights and tutus were not Edenâs idea of fun. On a long walk through the dance studio, it was her daughter who informed her of just what type of dance she wanted to do. Eden was stopped in her tracks by the sound of the heavy base and rhythm. The little girl squealed in excitement before taking it upon herself to run into the class that she was definitely not signed up for. Â Eden began taking hip hop dance lessons the next afternoon, suddenly the once seemingly shy girl became filled with light. Her awkward yet goofy personality began to shine through. It warmed her motherâs heart honestly, even if she wasnât going to get to live her black ballerina dreams vicariously â.
Eden always held her own in a diverse sea of dancers, and she was respected for her skills, which meant the world to her. She was honestly very talented, and she worked her little butt off. Her instructors began to notice and suggested competitions for the young girl to enter whenever one they knew Eden would be interested in came up. She was a regular face on the Ohio competition trail, and even if she didnât always win, she always stood out and had a blast. Three days after her tenth birthday, with her third place trophy in hand, Eden sat in the back seat of her motherâs car singing along to Destinyâs Childâs âSay My Nameâ. Thatâs the last thing she remembered before waking up in the hospital, unable to move her legs.
Not only did Eden have to begin to learn to maneuver through life without the full use of her legs, but she also had to deal with her family being uprooted. Turned out her fatherâs insurance didnât cover as much as they would have hoped, and the medical bills started to pile up. Noah James made the decision to move his family to NYC for a better job opportunity. It was more than most kids could handle all at once, and at first Eden didnât handle it well at all. She fell back into her silence, losing the voice that dance helped her find. She sat in that chair unmoving, staring at the television, most days, until her motherâd had enough. Evelyn took her little girl on a stroll, they talked and they cried and they watched the sunset together. Eden only wished sheâd had a camera to capture the yellow and orange waves.
Things slowly but surely began to get better for Eden. She still loved dance and music, and she and her mom came up with ways to continue to be involved in that world. She found her dadâs old video camera and started a little business, recording dancerâs audition videos. It was bitter sweet, but the sweet always won out. Once Eden got a little older and was able to get around the city in her wheelchair better, her business grew. She was recording all the special moments in the lives of people who couldnât afford a professional camera crew. It was one of her few friends who suggested finding a way to put her own written work on camera. And Eden, of course, thought that was a grand idea.
Comics sort of saved Eden when she was feeling her worst. Getting lost in worlds where people could go from ordinary to extraordinary with a simple spider bite. She imagined herself, the hero, flying through the sky saving the damsel in distress. It wasnât long before imagining became full-on written works. Her first original film, The Adventures of Calico, had her putting a cape on her family cat, and filming her fending off GI Joe in Barbieâs honor. A regular masterpiece!
Eden wrote and filmed her way right through high school, where she collected a couple of like minded outcast friends along the way. And that hard work and creative exploration got her an acceptance letter from Columbia Universityâs Film School. She was able to make art in the city she loved most in the world (not that sheâd been to many other places, but still) and study under some of the most well respected in the film world. It was all just a load of fun.
Eden received her MFA in film, along with a butt load of student loans to pay back. At the start things were rough. She was a black queer women in a wheel chair, getting her stories told was a hard fought fight, and convincing people that she was capable of telling them, that much more difficult. Eden decided not to give up.
After a few years of small projects here and there, a couple of opportunities to direct episodes of television, and write and produce a couple of shorts, Eden and her producer friend created a film production collective dedicated to getting stories of the marginalized told. Theyâd had some success, received accolades, and now the focus was on getting the work of other young filmmakers out for everyone to see. They decided setting up their production office outside the city was the best option since it was over saturated, but they wanted to be close enough to still make use of NYCâs resources. Eden found the town of Amory and fell in love with it. Itâs been 7 months and the production offices of E and J Film Collective are pretty much up and running. The American dream. Calico 2 to hit theaters in 2035.

ooc: Aidenâs intro is right here for those who need it.
Among the things that Aiden struggled with, one was personal upkeep. He was not a slob, but he hated doing chores. Part of his recovery was a strict housekeeping routine, though, and laundry was on todayâs agenda. He was grumpy as usual, but especially when he discovered that Tonyâs washer and dryer were broken.Â
Hauling his dirty clothes to AfterHours, he threw them in a machine and left. While they were being cleaned, he ran some errands. About an hour later, when he returned, all of his wet clothes were piled on top of a dryer. It wasnât hard to bother him today, so he scoffed out loud. There was only one other person in the laundromat. He glared at them and snapped, âDid you do this? You couldâve at least put them in the dryer.â

Writerâs blocks are evil. Eden groaned and rolled her eyes. She gently closed her laptop and slid it into her bag as she prepared to move to yet another spot hoping it would spark some inspiration. Sheâd started at her apartment, then moved to her office, then the coffee shop, and now she just planned on rolling around her little part of town until some place called to her. Ever since she and J had set up the production house, sheâd been drowning in the business of it all. It was exciting of course, starting a new adventure, but she missed getting lost in the creative side of what she did. Eden was determined to turn that around.
As she rolled down the sidewalk, singing along to Stevie Wonderâs Higher Ground, Eden realized her mission may have been futile, but she decided she would just enjoy the weather. It was strange, but Eden just stopped and looked to her left and there was a completely empty laundromat. She smiled to herself because that was silly, a laundromat being the place that called to her but... such is life. Â
Eden had settled in a spot near the window with really great light, for a moment she thought about what a really neat place this would be to shoot but the thought was fleeting and she went back to typing away. She was so engrossed in the process she didnât notice someone walking in.Â
âHuh?â Eden was completely confused. âI donât know what youâre talking about, Mr. Grumpy Pants, but those were there when I got here.â

Setting: Yo Jo Coffee Shop Tagging: Open to everyone! @silverliningstartersâ
It was an ordinary afternoon in the coffee shop. The buzz of many conversations going on dominated the soundscape of the shop, not even cups landing on tables or cutlery smashing together really garnered attention. That is, until Felipeâs loud obnoxious voice began permeating every customerâs ear. It was like a dragon had awoken from a deep slumber. Then, Felipe took out one AirPod and waved his phone. âI swear Iâm not yelling irrationally. Iâm on hold with city hall,â Felipe explained calmly. âTheyâre claiming they havenât received my complaint. This is total Anglo bias! My surname starts with a J, but Iâm all the way at the bottom of the list because they think my surname is only Vidal. Donât get me started. Iâm not one to mess with today.â The man had arrived at Yo Jo because his homeâs internet was down. He hadnât even had the all soothing afternoon cup of coffee he came for, just sat down and phoned up the customer service line.Â

A small yawn escaped past Edenâs reluctant lips as she lifted her right had to cover her mouth, the other gripping tightly on the left wheel of her chair, keeping her steady. It had been a long evening of reviewing scripts for a young filmmaker contest she was on the judge panel for. Eden had a few of her own projects in the works, plus she was working on a distribution deal for E&J, so she really didnât have the time for this contest, too bad she was a sucker for enthusiastic young filmmakers.Â
âGarden Of?â A barista called out with a slightly confused look on his and Eden smiled away her sleepy expression as she rolled herself toward the counter, âThatâs me!â She beamed and reached out to take her lavender latte. After popping the top off and inhaling one of her favorite aromas, she reapplied the lid and slid the drink in the cup holder attached to her chair. As she rolled through the crowded establishment toward the door, Eden was halted by a loud voice. âYou talkin to me? Are you talkin to me?â She gave a terrible Robert De Niro impression before a soft giggle fell from her lips. âGive âem hell?â She shrugged lightly. âBut not me, Iâm on your side.â She raised her fist and shook it with mock anger. âDamn those people on the other line.â
