SOARING WEDNESDAYS What happens when the “wind beneath your wings” fades? What do you do when it’s Wednesday (Thursday, Friday, Saturday...you get the picture) and you are hardly soaring? I mean some days you’re barely crawling through the day, not to mention getting over the hump! I remember a LONG time ago, staring at the clock while sitting at my part time job. Rough Sketch I grew up with the idea of being an artist. Observed other children trying to draw cars and tried it (though I really wanted to draw people, horses and buildings). It wasn’t until I was in high school that I got practical instruction and developed both the hand and eye to render effectively. But the drawings above aren’t from childhood, not even from young adult years. They are from approximately 17 years ago; they were my attempts at trying to relight the fire. And they were very rough and oh so discouraging! But I kept going; filled that sketch book with more rough drafts. And really it wasn’t until my wife suggested I try to draw or paint a picture of my father on his way to his land in Mississippi, that any excellence took place. No “kindling for the wood” took place until 2009. And there have been plenty of stops and starts since! Keep going. Don’t let lack of skill, a dead end job or failed marriage prevent you. GO!!! I don’t know about other artists - especially those who work regular 9-5 jobs - but I have to squeeze in MINUTES to get this work. So progress is slow.
