Who doesn't love coffee? nowadays even the most contemporary milk-tea lover arises, one's really cant resist to have a cup of coffee. Especially in our country "Philippines" being a coffee drinker country contributes to our being. Socio-economic/ cultural as they says is one factor of influencing one's behavior. Only kids are the age group that are not into coffee, but sooner and later as time goes by, when they are in their maturing age, they will be apt to coffee. Its also been proven that drinking coffee in public makes one beguiling to others. But before you get addicted to coffee , do you know facts about it? what are the benefits and the harmful effects of drinking coffee? Why Does Coffee Makes Me Sleepy or Boost Energy? As coffee's main content is caffeine that acts as a stimulant drug and a reversible acetylcholinesrterase inhibitor, in layman's term its stimulates the adrenal glands to release adrenalin, the ‘flight or fight’ hormone that prepares the body to react to a threat. It increases your heart and breathing rates, dilates the pupils and increases blood flow to the muscles. Ideally this adrenalin release happens very occasionally during times of great physical stress.However, when we consume excessive amounts of caffeine we promote a sustained adrenalin response, which exhausts the adrenal glands. As a result, these glands are unable to produce even the small amounts of adrenalin required to help us maintain focus and concentration, which in turn creates feelings of physical fatigue and malaise.

A secondary effect of caffeine consumption that contributes to sleepiness is that it can dampen the sensitivity of insulin. This hormone is involved in detecting sugar in the bloodstream and ensuring its uptake for energy production. If insulin is not working properly, we have less sugar available for energy and will feel tired.

Fiber benefits a healthy diet by helping to control blood sugar levels, lower cholesterol and aid in weight loss, it can also aggravate or cause adverse health risks.

Digestive Tract Problems

Eating too much fiber can cause digestive tract problems such as gas, bloating, cramps, abdominal pain and diarrhea. If you have a shortage of certain digestive enzymes, your body will not digest or absorb some fiber that can cause gas and associated bloating. Soluble fiber is undigested until it reaches the large intestine, where digestion causes gas to form. The type of fiber that causes gas and bloating is not uniform and varies from person to person. Eating less fiber-containing foods that cause gas is recommended to reduce digestive tract issues. One method to make dietary changes in fiber is by trial and error to determine what foods cause more gas. Another solution is to use over-the-counter digestive enzyme supplements to help digest foods that normally cause you gas.

Systemic Sclerosis Trigger

Systemic sclerosis is a systemic disorder that affects your skin's connective tissue, the walls of blood vessels and your internal organs. It also can affect your gastrointestinal tract. If you have systemic sclerosis, you should consult with your doctor before eating a high-fiber diet. Too much fiber in your diet can cause serious side effects, according to lead researcher A. Gough in a review published in the 1998 "Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases." One case study of a 46-year-old woman with managed systemic sclerosis found she developed severe abdominal pain, a distended abdomen, vomiting and had trouble with constipation after changing to a high-fiber diet of bran cereal, wheat bread and vegetables. She was admitted to the hospital, treated and released and had no further problems when she resumed her normal low-fiber diet.

Iron-Deficiency Anemia

Iron-deficiency anemia is caused from too little iron in your blood. It can be caused if your body does not absorb enough iron from the foods you eat. Iron-deficiency anemia can cause fatigue, shortness of breath and chest pain. Eating too much fiber reduces the amount of iron that is absorbed from your food by slowing iron absorption.

Reduce Calcium Absorption

Eating too much fiber reduces the amount of calcium absorbed by your body. Calcium is important for strong bones and teeth. Reduced calcium in the elderly is a concern as they typically have less exposure to sunlight and therefore less vitamin D, which helps in calcium absorption. High fiber intake also leads to a reduced bone turnover rate, according to a study published in the December 1993 issue of the "Journal of Nutrition." The study evaluated the diets of seven young men, first on a low-fiber diet and then with a high-fiber diet. They concluded that the rate of calcium absorption was significantly lower during the high-fiber diet along with significantly lower bone accretion, resorption and turnover rates.
