HAPPY 2019 TRIATHLETES!

Wow, I have not been very good with keeping up to date with this page.. We’re certainly not dead.  We’re certainly not going backwards.  There’s fire in my belly, and I’m striving for a triathlon filled 2019!

I’m off to do a 2 hour bike ride for the first time with cleats.  I’m sure a crash is incoming, but I’ll keep you posted!

Me: So why am I pulling a boy in the pool today?

Coach: No! You're using the pull buoy, you tuck it between your thighs, it's to help you focus on your strokes

Me: Woooh! I barely know this guy, what's he doing between my legs?! Why am I stroking him?!

First week down, let’s hit the next one fresh! Had a terrible weekend, so am not looking forward to the swim this morning, but there are always going to be bad days here and there! Good luck to anyone doing an early morning session ☺️

So great things are built one brick at a time, aren’t they?

I feel as though this one really tore me apart. I don’t think my lungs have ever quite decided to hop out of my chest and walk out of the gym, but I certainly felt close to that today. The spin was great, actually, and I really felt myself hit my stride with 15 minutes to spare.

But changing to the run really hits you fast! Suddenly your powerful pistons of legs turn to jelly, and you suddenly wonder whether you can actually get through it. A lot of deep digging happened today, and finishing felt wonderful. 

That’s the first week in the bank! Time for a hot chocolate, a nice hot shower, and a fresh pair of underpants to get the weekend started.

Day 5: Controlled drowning

Alright, so I am not a good swimmer, and have a long way to go to improve! That was twenty five minutes of really thinking that I may drown. I don’t know if anybody else out there struggles with the breathing with front crawl, but I know I certainly do…

Day 4: Spinning... again?!

Ouch.. Forget rolling out of bed, this was a crawl! My legs just don’t want to do anything, so that early morning spin session at the gym didn’t happen.. So instead I was off to a spin class in the evening. Today was pretty stressful, so it was nice to go into the spin to try and clear my thoughts. I was surprised, that was a great session, managed to get more watts out than usual! Just two more days before the rest day. I certainly felt more relaxed after the session, but maybe we’re onto something!

So for tomorrow, I plan to have a blazing argument with my girlfriend to see whether that can help me swim faster. 

Day 3: 45 minute spin

Ok, my legs hurt, my arms are sore, and my hips are feeling stiff from yesterday’s swim (who knew your hips could get stiff??), but there’s no time to dwell on that, I’ve got to get this run done today.

If anybody has any advice on beginning triathlon training and would like to share, then please feel free to post on this page!

If anybody has a good doughnut recipe that they’d like to share, then please post here as well! I know I wouldn’t mind...

So that’s the first swim finished. I certainly would love that to be my last, but then this blog wouldn’t exactly keep itself running. We could rename it to “Eat. Sleep. Repeat”?

Damn, the name’s already been taken.. I guess I’ll just have to come back to the pool another day!

Post 1, Paragraph 1, Sentence 1! Wow, this is very exciting. Just as everybody else is starting their new year with a resolution, I’m trying to do the same, but to the next level! Not just trying to meditate once a day, or learning to hold your breath for 3 minutes (although, that would be cool), this is a whole other beast.

Turning up the intensity, I’ve decided to try and train for a triathlon. I’m rubbish in the pool, haven’t ridden a bike for years, and am not the best runner in the world, so this is certainly going to be interesting... 

So down to the pool I go for the very first of many swims. I’ve got all of my kit ready only to find that the pool is closed over lunch time today. It looks like I’m coming back this evening! 

With any luck, I hope to look like this guy within a year!
