Just finished Season 2 last night.

The rewatch is crazy. Seeing all the foreshadowing, the threads that eventually weave together, the motivations- Jesse Armstrong is really an absolute genius.

My top 3 episodes of the first two seasons are probably

1. Tern Haven

2. Austerlitz

This is a TELEVISION SHOW. It has to be renewed for more seasons. The end of season two is conflict that sets up season three.

I love a fluffy day in the life fic, but that’s not how actual tv is made. Most people aren’t tuning in to watch 6 episodes of nothing happening.

And this drugged coffee shit- like Aziraphele has always been super naive and trusting AND he has is stubborn. He always believed in Heaven and he really thought he and Crowley would be together in heaven. Like the last three minutes were just Aziraphele standing out looking torn about his choice. He had clear regret but his entire characterization is someone who firmly believes in goodness and doing the right thing. One of the last shots of him is looking concerned at the “second coming”.

Obviously these two idiots are end game. They set up the conflict for season three to be Azi like figuring out Heaven is corrupt so he can finally shed his religious trauma on his own and be able to be an equal partner with Crowley.

Teenage and freshly post war Drarry will always have a place in my heart but I want to read about adults.

Including a deeply homoerotic bromance, dark comedy, capitalistic greed, antagonism between the father and his brother (in law), three children competing to prove themselves, deeply dysfunctional family dynamics, incompetent over privileged children

Greg becomes CEO- this makes no fucking sense and if it’s true, I will flip a table. One it’s gimmicky, which succession is not a show that relies on gimmicks. Two, it doesn’t make sense. Succession relies on aspects of logic and Greg doesn’t have the experience or know how or anything to be CEO. I see him ending up somewhere on the top in a position he doesn’t deserve because he’s successfully manipulated and connived his way there, but not CEO.

Kendall becomes CEO- this makes the most sense. The show begins with Kendall’s promised ascension and everything that happens over the next four seasons (one year canonically) is due to Kendall trying to achieve his “birthright”. This season has propelled his character to become further and further Logan like. I think narratively its both logical and fulfilling for the show to end with Kendall at the top having alienated his siblings, created a new “Old Guard” (this is where Greg fits in), having custody of his kids, and having emotionally abandoned himself in the pursuit of power. It’s very much a -we become the monsters we cannot kill- type vibe. It’s a Pyrrhic victory but a victory none the less.

Tom becomes CEO- this one I’ve seen gain traction the last 24 hours and frankly, I don’t get it at all. Tom is my favorite character (I can’t think about this fact too deeply) but like no one fucking likes him (except me and again I don’t want to think about that). Mattson can’t stand him, Kendall can’t stand him, Shiv can’t stand him, Mencken I don’t know has ever canonically interacted with Tom so I just don’t see it. I could see a world, with another season, where you could build a narrative that allows him to be CEO and it not feel gimmicky (which I can’t ever see with Greg) but that’s not this season so I just don’t see how we could land there in 90 minutes.

Seems like everyone’s pretty confident neither Roman nor Shiv will be CEO and I would agree with that. I also don’t see some like surprise random person being CEO because, despite what some people think- it’s not a gimmicky show.
