TOP 10 EASTASTE ARTIST 2014

We listen to a lot of music every day, and certainly, only a few pass the grade. What we are looking for is such music coming from Eastern Europe, which is fresh and inspiring. But the key is that it should have a “story”, because this is what will make the given piece a perfect companion of movies or ads. Our fellow colleague Daniel Somló picked his 10 favorite artists out of our roster, tracks…

  1. Most nagyon pörög

Egyre több magyar zenét hallgatnak a magyarok, lásd artisjus youtube statok, rádiók, gondolj a nagy nyári kampányokra: OTP/Nagyszínpad, Coca-Cola #monddelzenével (disclaimer: ehhez a kampányhoz mi válogattuk/jogosítottuk mind a 35 benne szereplő dalt),Suzuki viaDal, Heineken kampányok stb.

2. Végre rengeteg a jó

Nem véletlenül pörög ennyire, hanem mert végre hangzásban és minőségben is tudják hozni, amit kell.

3. Jobb, mint a stock

Egy zenekar zenéje általában sokkal jobban össze van rakva mint a stock vagy egy gyorsan íratott zene. Hónapokon, éveken át izzadtak a stúdióban, mire megszülték.

4. Ki tudod fizetni

Nagyságrendekkel olcsóbb egy magyar sláger, mint egy külföldi. Ha még annál is kisebb a büdzséd, arra is rengeteg megoldás van. Hemzsegnek a felfutó magyar zenekarok, akikkel rugalmasan meg lehet állapodni. Ráadásul segítőkészek, ha arról van szó, hogy kicsit képhez kell igazítani a zenét.

5. Érthető szöveg

Jól használt magyar szöveg jobban erősíti az üzenetet, mert mindenki érti.

6. Erősebb márkakapcsolás, hitelesebb kommunikáció

Remekül belőhető egy zenekar és egy márka közös célcsoportja. Ráadásul sokkal hitelesebben is éred őket egy zenekaron keresztül. Plusz, mivel sokkal olcsóbb egy magyar sláger, ezért nem csak a végtelenített büdzsével rendelkező cégek tudják kihasználni a sláger-márkakapcsolás óriási erejét, hanem a kisebbek is.

7. Nem bonyolult megszerezni

Ha azt hiszed nehéz jó áron és gyorsan megszerezni egy magyar számot, van egy jó hírem: mi ezzel foglalkozunk egész nap. Dolgozunk az összes kis és nagy kiadóval és publisherrel, nem beszélve a számtalan friss, és nagyreményű zenekarról akikkel a projektjeink során kapcsolatba kerülünk.

8. Jobban áll és még a sajtója is jobb

We Plants Are Happy Plants have been around in the Budapest scene for years now. He became well known for his Coldplay, Daft Punk and Hans Zimmer remixes. This spring his brand new album "Songs About the Unspeakable" came out, with emotional, nature orientated soundscapes.

How did your band come to being?

As a Radiohead fan I chose the name ‘weplants’ for my Radiohead message board adventures. The name came from their ‘I Might Be Wrong Live EP’, where in the booklet artwork I found the inscription ‘we plants are happy plants’. When I started creating music I decided to stick with it.

How would you describe your music to a deaf person?

I’m trying to embed Nature into my music, it’s sort of like landscape paintings. I believe it’s very emotional, but those emotions might be different for each person. People sometimes tell me they find Radiohead depressing, while I always found their music uplifting, which is what I’m striving for in my own works, but sometimes it does lead through minor chords..

If you could decide to put your own track in any film ever made or yet to be made, what film/track would it be?

I would love to create music for a movie that dissolves boundaries between the imagination and reality, something like ‘Watchmen’ or ‘The Lord Of The Rings’, but I’m not that much into Hollywood-style movies these days, I’d be more interested in a poetic yet modern vision of ineffable and titanic emotions and landscapes.

What movie would you liked to have soundtracked and why?

I’m actually soundtracking a movie that I’m creating right now. It’s a journey through Terence McKenna’s mind edited together from an immense amount of footage. This is what I’ve been working on since my new album got released and many songs will be featured or even remixed for this project.

When you were 13 you listened to…

What was your first vinyl, cassette purchase?

To clarify, it was at an early age when the word ‘vinyl’ would have just made me go ‘what?’, but it was a Backstreet’s Back cassette by the Backstreet Boys…

Amidst the end-of-the-year list making craze, we also piled up our most memorable and successful new tracks from our catalogue. We found tons of exciting tracks this year too from Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, the Baltics or even Montenegro. This mix represents some of the best talents (by far not all...), known/unknown bands, hot producers and even hotter singers. We interviewed our amazing multi-talented, Bristol-based artist, Katapulto recently. It turns out that not only does he produce the quirkiest music at Eastaste (that we admire deeply), but he also shares our obsession with cult filmmakers like Jodorowsky!

So here's our latest: we provided music to Enter's new commercial, a cute spot directed by Danila Kostil and produced by Fetish Film! The song in the ad is our lovely Palms On Fire's Birds In A Supermarket.
