INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (2022–)
if the writers wanted you to have a clear understanding of what exactly happened between daniel and the student in the car park, they’d have phrased it less ambiguously
the discourse in this fandom is exhausting.
the writers left it vague ON PURPOSE. there is no single concrete truth to be found in lestat’s depiction of armand’s description of this incident
was it rape? was it consensual rough sex? was it daniel’s student, or was it just a student?
we don’t know. they’re not telling us. on purpose.
you’re meant to hear it, understand that daniel’s a bad dude, that maybe he DID rape a kid, or take advantage of a student, or maybe not, and sit with that discomfort
you’re meant to WONDER what daniel might be capable of, not argue on the internet over what he did that night like there’s a right answer.
there’s no right answer. WE DON’T KNOW. WE’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO KNOW.
never getting over this actually
So true.

The show “The Vampire Lestat” is an adaptation of the novel of the same name.
Rolin Jones has made it expressly clear that the show is sort of an amalgamation of all the novels in The Vampire Chronicles to try to make it a bit more of a cohesive plotline, alongside new storylines and stronger characterization for Louis and Daniel, as they were underutilized in the novels.
This season is TVL through the framework of “The Failures”, so Lestat’s successes are not going to be depicted for very long in his retelling. That’s why we didn’t see the killing of the wolves. That’s why his romance with Nicki lasted all of five minutes.
This was never a 1:1 portrayal of the novels. From the start, the very basis of the original story was changed by making Louis a black man in 1910s Louisiana. People expecting it to be anything else are just setting themselves up for disappointment.
literally
the dm scene great but my favourite part was when armand added in a little gossip in the middle of all of the "for 52 years i have loved you and remember when you needed to cry really bad one day i made sure you got to do that alone in a pretty church and i have done little things for you and loved you for that long and also lestat is FUCKING HIS MOM isn't that crazy"
jacob wiping sam's spit from his face so flirtily 🤣
there have been a few posts showing the parallels between lestat’s dynamics with gabriella and akasha (with the memory of baby!lestat and his sticks juxtaposed with keeper!lestat and his ice cream scoop being a major one) but i can’t help but notice that the changes to the towmbk storyline means that the dynamic between lestat and marius/akasha also strongly mirrors the dynamic between lestat and magnus.
marius is singing about lestat’s blue eyes and blonde hair when he wakes up from his dirt nap, which are the physical characteristics magnus sought him out for. marius also took lestat from where he was sleeping, dragged him to an isolated stone room in the middle of nowhere and then told him he was selected to inherit something he not only did not ask for, but was unaware existed previously. this powerful creature you do not understand has identified you specifically to be their heir/keeper congratulations on your new position you cannot refuse it, good luck. and then he gets left with the responsibility of the role with extremely minimal instruction and an empty hall full of treasures, and no one to ask for help. and then he gets forcibly bitten and then given new blood, which causes him to have new, difficult to control powers that he also doesn’t understand before being kicked out again.

I have mentioned this multiple times, but I need people to realise how unhinged Louis and Armand's Dubai penthouse is.
EVERYTHING has fucking vertical bars everywhere that make this place look like a literal and figurative prison.
Sometimes it is subtle, sometimes it is absurdly clear, but there are fucking PRISON BARS in their bedroom and I'm not going to shut up about this.
Louis is in horrible depressing loungewear most of the time-- completely bereft of colour and texture and even shape and I hate it. But on the rare occasion he wears something with any pattern, it's more vertical stripes.
This is one of my favourite examples, because not only do we have the prison bars everywhere, but these two men are also wearing stripes-- but they are not matched (Armand striped shirt, Louis striped bottoms). Meaning they are not in this prison together, they are experiencing the prison differently. They are imprisoning each other and themselves.
What is wild is when we step away from the prison stripes, we just get... monastery chic. Cold, hard, harsh, eye-straining blankness. Very little art, no joy, no texture, just... monastery.
It's like they hired a repressed monk who spent 100% of his life from birth to death to do the décor. And when that monk was in his 50s, he left the monastery to be with the other monk he fell in love with, but because he's such a repressed and ridiculous monk, he has no idea how normal bloody houses work because he has never been in one.
And a combination of the monastery + prison
These fucking GAy VAMPIRES literally put a picture of Judas and Jesus in their prison cells. ON PURPOSE‽
These men are fucking BROKEN and they hate each other, they are keeping each other and themselves prisoner-- AND they are taking it out on the décor.
Fucking 77 years of purgatory for them both.
Oh, and I've also said this before, but Louis in the shapeless boring drab loungewear in Dubai? I cannot WAIT to see Louis come out of his clothes coma. The few snippets for S3 have him back in textures and colours and patterns and I'm so so so excited to see him in beautiful things again. I need my Helen of Troy back in his beautiful gowns. NOW.

INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE Season 1, Episode 4 | Season 3, Episode 5
You can tell the difference in Lestat’s intent based on who was telling the story.
In Claudia’s version of events, Lestat was being cruel by making her watch Charlie burn. Grabbing her with his hands and forcing her to gaze as his face melted. His face is serious as he tortures her with this lesson.
In Lestat’s memories, he was holding Claudia’s hand the entire time as she watched Charlie burn in front of her. His face is melancholic and tearful as he likely recalls Nicki being burned by Armand. He was enduring the pain with her in real time.
Claudia never knew any of this because she never looked back to see his face.

hey. you are supposed to be uncomfortable by louis paying regina to act like claudia. it is creepy and gross. it is also desperate, grief-driven, unhealthy, and sad. AND it makes total sense for a man who built a name for himself by profiting off of women's bodies. louis' actions this season are not out of character, because he has shown us time and time again that women, particularly black women and Claudia specifically, are not people that he fully respects. louis has always treated Claudia like an object, like something that is "his". and if you feel icky or upset by the current storyline, good! that's what it is there for. idk why people are surprised in season three that the show about evil vampires is going to depict them as evil vampires.
