Just seen a post talking about Lestat using Nicki's music box as he first has sex with Louis as him trapping Louis. Makes me realise how many people still see it as Louis and Claudia both being equally 'trapped' and take anything Claudia says or writes at face value, never to be questioned. As though Louis in his passiveness isn't also keeping Claudia 'trapped' - and also a level of selfishness that he didn't want to let her go for his own sake, which Louis even admits to.

There are so many important little character-building moments for Letstat this season. Just in the last episode alone:
he patiently listened to salamander's awful song, than gave some constructive criticism to TC and then ended up making an actual song out of it.
he readily welcomed alex back and was very warm and gentle in his words with him when he could have been annoyed.
he obviously deeply appreciates and respects christine and how she runs things, enough to ask for her help in the interview.
that small moment where fareed corrected him was really sweet and shows that he respects his opinion and doesn't mind being corrected (and was very empathetic about his mother).
Idk, I just remember while reading the books last year: god I really hope we get to see the way he's actually quite endeared to others, and the way he loves people and gets life from them. He's not this cold, unfeeling monster who only uses people (and what else are we to conclude from a tale told by someone who thought they should hate him? It's understandable, but it's time to move on).
R&F: Before your solo album, we got to see "Supersonic," that documentary about Oasis. Extraordinary.
Liam Gallagher: Thanks, but I wouldn't have stopped this documentary there. I would have told everything, absolutely everything. Even the darkest, most shameful things. The whole story had to be told, the opportunity to bring things full circle. But it's a good documentary. My mother is just fantastic in it. She's even better than me (laughs). I love it.

Bad sex scenes are fun to make fun of but I think one of the easy reasons they are frequently awful is that there's no narrative energy to them. I picked up on this by studying combat scenes and I think the problems that show up are really similar; there's this thing writers do where they treat these kinds of sequences differently than the rest of their work, the scenes feel like they exist outside the regular narrative and writers just pause the story while they happen. People are always complaining about fighting and sex in stories being "boring and a waste of time" and that's not an inherent function of these mechanics, that means writers aren't approaching them with the same thoughtfulness as the narrative, and the audience can feel it.
The sex is an interaction, and interactions should illuminate things! It's still beholden to the plot/characterization/worldbuilding rule, we should always be communicating some kind of new information or reinforcing what is already understood. You are having 2+ personalities strip down and communicate with their bodies what are they SAYING. It doesn't have to be anything profound, even just communicating to the audience "i think this person doing this thing is hot" counts; wanting the reader to get off to something is a perfectly respectable goal that can keep us on track if you're aware of it. But the writer so frequently has NO IDEA what they're actually trying to say, what the goal of the scene is beyond fucking or fighting, so we end up with bland interfacing between characters who could be replaced by any other characters doing the same thing anywhere else. It isn't hot or interesting to be directionless, pick an intention and go.

honestly i ship it. lestat commits many crimes but letting fareed go unfucked would be straight up evil
getting so tired of the discourse over what lestat meant by that āragdoll for saleā line
was he mocking armandās sexual trauma? maybe! heās still pretty mad armand killed his daughter. that could certainly drive a person to hit below the belt!
OR was he just calling armand a wishy-washy sell out? maybe! sam reid certainly believes so. and armand was known for dressing in rags during his cult days!
but at the end of the day:
a) lestat haters are going to believe anything that feeds their narrative about lestat being an evil, racist abuser. and lestat apologists are going to file down the worst and most interesting parts of his character until heās limp as a ragdoll himself. both are annoying.
b) other than sam reidās opinion, weāre not gonna get any answers. every viewerās just gonna have to decide for themselves what he meant by that and move on
c) does it matter? these characters are vampires. they do way worse shit than this all the time
no woman should ever have to explain why she doesnt do something to her body.... 'why don't you wear makeup?' 'why don't you shave?' like. thats what i look like. idk what to tell you
What book is Fareed reading?
Itās The Castle of Crossed Destinies by Italo Calvino.
I managed to find the same cover as the one he was reading which I'll put below.
It's a book about a group of travellers who meet in what might be a castle and what might be a tavern after crossing a forest which renders them unable to speak. They attempt to tell each other their stories through a deck of tarot cards and the stories are interpreted through the openly subjective view of the narrator.
It's effectively about how we individually create meaning out of what we see. The travellers cannot talk and the cards can represent so many different things to each person. Then there's the picture that all the cards create together. It's all about personal analysis. Also the very obviously and openly unreliable narrator, who isnāt a liar exactly but can only offer one personal interpretation of the stories being told.
So itās obviously a commentary on the show itself and, to me, a response to the absolutist interpretations that run rampant in the fanbase. There is no objectivity to anyoneās perspectives in the show, which is what the cast and crew have been saying the whole time, and finding a singular truth is not the point.
