Okay I’m glad someone commented on how rolin kept harping on the first six eps being an incomplete story, bc ep 6 feels like it actually would have been a good place to end the season🤷‍♀️

Adding context to the Regina plot that already worked as it was doesn’t make this a complete story. I’ll have to rewatch but nothing here helped tie anything together that they were seemingly building towards and just… ignored

Yeah, I said that in my "thoughts post", but ... ending it at 6, and then using the now episode 7 as 4x01?

THAT could have worked wonderfully.

Louis and Lestat were only thinking of each other in the end. Louis saying plainly that Lestat was the love of his life even though it angered Armand and risked Regina's life. His confession that even then, amidst the horror of it all, his head detached from his body, he was still thinking of Lestat. Still there on that bench with him, swimming in the fog of love. His love like a tether anchoring him to the earth...

And Lestat... his life with Louis flashing before his eyes at the long table, recounting his failures, shots of their kisses in reverse because he could feel himself slipping away from his beloved, never to feel the knock of his heart again. The final memory a flash of himself knocking on Louis' coffin, trying to wake him, longing for his touch...

"Could be. Hands touch." That moment on the bench anchoring him to reality. Louis as his tether just as he is for Louis. His Louis, Louis, Louis the most precious gift he has on this earth...

And then Paul shows up. I'm not sure if we were meant to see him as a ghost or merely an imagining saying what Lestat wanted to hear (I'm assuming the latter) but either way... Lestat was only thinking of Louis. Their love. The way Louis never said it in words but how, after their reunion, the moment on the bench, he felt that love all the same. "He has a hard time saying it. Doesn't mean he doesn't."

For both of them, their love is the beginning and the end of all things. The last thing they think of, the last thing they ache for...

And what a perfect setup for what they could be together in season 4, even if only for a moment. Drowning in the fog of love when the season begins...

my initial take on the finale:

i think people are confusing what happened with what the writers thought the characters deserved.

but like. this isn’t hays code writing. this is a gothic vampire show. the characters are gonna fuck each other up to try to get their needs met.

so, to me:

the loumand scenes were grotesque, but ultimately, the story was moving in a direction there, and the characters arrived at real moment of truth and mutual understanding. the loumand relationship was left unfinished in s2, and i think a reckoning needed to be had.

"and yeah, the mutual proposal was not scripted, we are not sure where they got the emerald rings from, cause props say it's not from them, but it felt like a really natural thing for their characters to do, so we left that in"

"so we shot this scene handheld and told them to just do what's natural for the characters and we will follow their lead, we were somewhat surprised when they went into that church and started exchanging vows, but the footage was great so we decided to include that as well... honestly, we were somewhat surprised this random church was completely empty save for all the luscious arrangements of white lilies and great lighting, but you know, happy accidents!"

Guys I feel so good, my favourite ship is both canon AND endgame. I don’t think I’ve ever had that. I’m so happy you don’t understand. And they’re played by two of the best actors I’ve ever seen. With insane chemistry. Who are passionate about their characters and their relationship and their love. And who are best friends in real life, and created their own rpf ship name. And are genuinely great people. And the show is lovingly made by artists, and loved by critics.

And they’re toxic and codependent and they’re fucked up and they’re husbands and they argue and bicker and they make each other laugh and they try to kill each other and fuck nasty and mourn and long and yearn for each other and they always come back to each other and they love each other more than anything else in the world.
