[ Yeah; he could understand her perfectly, as Charlie had grown used to her tired grumblings in the wee hours of the mornings. Divorce was all that he could remember. Being alone— without Bella, without Renee; he was utterly alone… but not anymore. ]
[ A smile forms on her lips; the sleepiness she felt moments before is slowly ebbing away in the wake of sudden warmth and affection. She supposes it's just as well, because Renee is the type to have trouble staying still once she's alert. In no time, she'll probably be padding around the house doing God-knows-what despite the early hour. ]
"Are you sure? What did you dream about?"
[ It's not the first time she's had to soothe Charlie's bad dreams. Being a chief of police, it sort of came with the territory, she imagined. And before Bella had been born, they'd both had nightmares about being terrible parents; how they'd juggle their careers and a baby. It all worked out though, in the end. ]
