House Centipede
(Scutigera coleoptrata) With its yellowish-brown striped body and up to 15 pairs of legs, they can certainly be quite startling. Though a bit scary to some, they are quite beneficial to keep around the house. As they cannot bite you, and they hunt down and eat other household pests
Though originally from the Mediterranean, theyre now found worldwide in dark places like basements and attics. They are also cannibalistic and self regulating. Meaning house centipedes cannot overwhelm or "infest" a house as they will begin to eat each other if there are more than a few present.
They hunt through running down, tackling, and injecting venom into their prey with their modified front legs (forcipules) and they can attack lightning quick. Be kind to these wonderful little beasties and they will protect your home in return.
