Oscars
Who's been to the Oscars? I've been following this for awhile and I'm starting to wonder about ALL the awards. Who will get the Best of the Best on Tinseltown's biggest night?
It's the most glamorous night on television for Movies, DVDs, Blu-Rays and Streaming Vids. Tell me your picks in the comments selection below on this site!
New DVDs?
When will the new DVDs start coming out? Are there any your really looking forward to?
It's been a quiet week for DVDs.
I absolutely could NOT FIGURE OUT which one was Meryl Streep. She's so good, she could have played ALL the actors in this movie. I DEFINITELY think she deserves to win Best OscarÂŽ for this one, at least a nomination--c'mon Academy!
Matt has not seen this movie yet.
I saw this movie as a Streaming digital vid in a traditional movie theater because the movie is not available for home viewing. As a streaming vid it was pretty good, but there was definitely something wrong with the sound. I sat around other people also watching the movie, and there was a bathroom in the theater but I POLITELY declined to use the bathroom even when I definitely had "to go" around 30 mins in.
IF the movie had been shorter, I definitely would have gone!
What even HAPPENED in this movie? I could not follow this movie even on DVD and in addition it was so long that I had to turn it off NEARLY THIRTY MINUTES into the movie. That is way too long to have to wait before turning it off. Even when the movie is G.I. Joe, a familiar and enduring product that we have KNOWN FOR YEARS.
The last couple Dvds I have rented have had stories that are IMPOSSIBLE TO FOLLOW with ALMOST NO ACTIONS taken by characters. Why are characters just standing around if they're not going to DO ANYTHING? And why is there an English President?
Matt had this to say:
The English President is played by renowned playwright and actor Jonathan Pryce. He probably WON AN AWARD for this character.
Well that might be the case but even a great character needs some ACTION AND ADVENTURE to keep the viewer entertained. This movie focused too much on Jonathan Pryce's English accent and NOT ENOUGH on the action, adventure, and chills we have all come to expect from DVD.

And now we have a Guest Review by fan and critic Oscar Ebert of the Oscar Fassbinder movie Word on a Wire, currently streaming on Hulu.com, Netflix.com, torrent search...etc.).
Oscar KNOWS HIS STUFF and his review contains THOUGHTS AND ALLUSIONS to the so-called "academic" side of film crit and movie fandom but STILL KEEPING IT INTERESTING for everyday film bloggers and film fans.
Most importantly, this Guest Review definitely makes me want to check the movie out! I keep hoping SOMETHING good is happening on streaming vids, online content, and VOD subscription... We'll see!
According to Oscar Ebert, Now Streaming World on a Wire:
This is a long movie by a German director who is dead, gay and an alcoholic.  Itâs really trippy and paranoidâŚor the people in it are paranoid.  Wait, one person is, but heâs the main guy, which makes it seem like you may (or may not!) be paranoid.  Movies are weird like that. (Christian Mets).  The main guy is all like âWe think therefore, we are; RIGHT?!â Because heâs not really sure and then youâre not really sure.  And then heâs like, to some guy, âWhat color is your coffee.â  And the guy goes âBrown.â  But then the main guy is like âMaybe its purple.â (Purple in German is Lila).  And then he casts doubt on the existence of the chair.  The film is sci-fi, but made in the 1970s so thatâs pretty weird.
Anyway, speaking of chairs the furniture in the film is really rad and Iâd like a few of the pieces, but that wonât happen because of its likely unavailability and also Iâm poor.
I watched the movie streaming on Hulu and that was really a meta experience, because as the main guy was like âIs the world real?â   I was like, is this really a film?   And then I was able to stop the film at will (as I got distracted and as I did another things) and felt like like God and had a sort of crisis, but not really.
Still and all, streaming is cool and makes things easier for buff film buffs like myself. Also, I like water.
Thanks Oscar!
How many of you RIGHT NOW are watching the Hugo Movie on 3-D streaming, online or VOD content? As far as streaming goes, this movie is the Oscar Winner ÂŽ, but are streaming movies REALLY better than DVD?
Here's what my friend Matt has to say:
Web streaming is worth it but who was that Kid?
I have to say I agree STRONGLY with Matt on this one. Why do they keep showing the same kid over and over again? If Hollywood blockbusters want to learn from DVD, they will learn to build STORIES around their kids instead of just showing them again and again.
I was left thinking: Where did this kid come from? What is his STORY? Where's he going? Are his PARENTS around? Answering any of these questions would have made The Hugo Movie worth more (if not all) of your time.
New Film Blogs
What are the best film blogs? Is there time to read them all? For "Movie Reviews on DVD" I am officially entering the waters of the film blogosphere, but is there time for writing/reading posts, finding images online and most importantly WATCHING MOVIES? I think so. Some of the best movies of the past few years have been coming out on DVD. My friend Matt has a different take: "Good movies are DVDs, Blu-ray, streaming it doesn't matter!" This is just one of many points on which Matt and I disagree.
All I gotta say is: THE ACTING! DVD movies are JUST BETTER STORIES than Blu-Ray, online or Streaming Vids... It is THAT SIMPLE. Believe it or not my buddy Matt disagrees
"I have to say, I think Blu-Ray makes better movies. I saw Tree of Life recently and it really FLOORED ME."
Matt, if you had been reading this blog you might have read my post on Trees of Life. BUT THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE HERE. Watch a DVD like Green Hornets and I GUARANTEE you will be crying in the end FILLED with emotions.
This DVD had the best writing, the BEST acting of any or most DVDs I have seen recently, INCLUDING TREE OF LIFE.
My only question is WHO DIRECTED THIS DVD? I didn't see it on any of the DVD packaging, online posters, promo vids or fan forums for this DVD.
Green Hornets: Bravo! LOOK AT THESE GUYS!
New Movies?
How many have seen the latest Blu-Ray and DVD movies? Are any of these things any good? Here's what my friend Matt has to say about streaming vids:
Watching the movie from home might be convenient but it is very expensive.
Including the price of a Flat Screen⢠TV! $$$$$$$
So many of these new places are showing 3-D capable movies at home and online/streaming to you..... BUT...... Who wants to wear all those glasses?
If it means watching movies 24/7, sign me up!

First off Tree 4 Life was LONG and CONFUSING! WHY are there so many different pictures all at once? My friend Matt has this to say about DVD:
Yeah, I think Blu-Ray is like 30% longer than a regular DVD.
You heard it here FIRST if this movie was re-released on DVD it would be HALF as long at least as the average Blu-Ray movies.
I can't figure out what Tree 4 Life is about but I can tell you it's worth some but not all of your time.
