East Village Radio (EVR) Internet radio station
Tomorrow, June 12th, at midnight, is the debut of my radio program, "Dusted and Social", on East Village Radio! It's also my birthday!
All new episodes will be posted at the link above. The first one is the "pilot" episode. A demo, if you will. Meaning, I bought a better microphone after I recorded it. I did manage to edit out nearly all instances of me saying "um", which was about every three seconds. I had no idea I was saying "um" that much in my speech until I played back the audio. Thank god they gave me a radio show, so I could finally have the right tools for self-awareness.
As I say in the episode, I am probably going to experiment with my voice. It is exciting to change who I am and do so in a public light, after being a very private person for most of my life. But the show is still going to be mostly music, so that isn't a central part of it. That aspect if maybe just more for me.
My EVR bio description for the show is:
"a focus on sounds that reflect the weirdness, violence, and covert beauty of the modern world."
I have a very loose philosophy for what I'll play. I am mostly trying to explore a world of sound that seems absent or repressed when you look at what we consume as a society generally. Not so much a reaction to a corporate mainstream, per se, but trying to find what we as a society are filtering out in our ideal images and collective preferences. The roughness around the edges that the ideal images attempt to conceal. It maybe isn't always going to be so lofty, but I think it will more often than not tie together along those lines.
You can listen live at 12am Thursday nights/Friday morning, every two weeks, starting tomorrow, at the link above. Archived episodes will be posted on Mixcloud:
