a good portion of the romance genre in fandom and in general revolves around the concept of opposites attract. it's popularity should not shock you. you don't have to like it. (you should think about why and how and criticize it) but it really shouldn't shock you.

differences between characters create conflict, which then creates/prompts dynamics worth reading/writing/drawing/talking/thinking about. it's engaging, ergo, once again, people like it and it becomes (and remains!) popular.

Anko: "I don't believe you. What did you do?"

Kakashi: "...."

Kakashi: "I promised him that the next time I visit Mist, I would buy him a special Ramen that they only sell there. Apparently, he been wanting to try it for a while."

Genma: "Huh. I guess that man is willing to do pretty much anything for Ramen."

Anko: "He really does love it."

Kakashi: *Mumbles underneath his breath* "Not everything..."

Kakashi: "NOTHING!" *Laughs nervously* "Oh wow, would you look at this weather. I think it might rain. Guess I gotta go. Bye."

Kotetsu: "Just between you and me but I'm pretty sure that Kakashi has had a semi crush on Iruka since they were teenagers.

Izumo: "What- How?"

Kotetsu: You know how Iruka was a little spitfire when he was younger? Well apparently, he used to prank a certain Anbu all the time."

Izumo: *Gasp* "Nooooo...."

Kakashi: "Nonsense. The safest you will ever be is if you're in the same bed with me. How else will I be able to protect you if someone breaks into the room?"

Iruka: "..."

Iruka: "You're lucky that I'm too tired to argue with you. Which side do you want?"

Kakashi: "The left side. So that you are up against the wall."

Iruka: "Alright but I get the extra pillow."

Naruto: "WOAH! Where did you come from?! And I don't know what you're talking about."

Kakashi: "Nice try. He doesn't, does he? I don't think he will be happy to hear that you're out here. Especially late at night when it's extra cold and dangerous."

Naruto: "...."

Naruto: "What can I do for you not to tell him?"

Kakashi: "Hmmm.... I know! I want you to invite me back over for dinner. I know he hasn't been inviting me over because you threw a fit."

Naruto: >:(

Kakashi: "I think I will tell him that-"

Naruto: "FINE! You got a deal. But you gotta stop flirting with him in front of me. It's weird."

Iruka: "For the hundredth time, Yes I'm sure about dating Kakashi."

Naruto: "It's just- I think you can do better. What about that one Anbu? The one who used to bring me food? Even though it was just some dumb vegetables. He was nice to me."

Iruka: "You know I can't just date Anbu?? I'm pretty sure there's a couple rules about that."

Naruto: "Rules are dumb."
