Why I never want to develop for Android
Allow me to preface this entry by stating first and foremost, that I love Android. I think it’s pretty awesome, open source development is awesome and it is always a worthwhile endeavor to take part in, not to mention the huge diversity of devices that…

Whether it's Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated. Being a Fucking Idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture because you are rewarded significantly.

My new favorite text editor
I've started moving in the direction of doing more and more work on the iPad. Being out and about a lot means that I have ample usage time on the device, and while I find I can't do the usual design work I do, having to wait till I get back to a real PC, I can do a lot of the other stuff I do, namely coding and writing. Since having acquired a very nice [bluetooth keyboard for the iPad](http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/support/tablet-accessories/tablet-keyboard-ipad) from Logitech, this has made my life all the easier, no longer have to essentially triple key press for < symbols when editing web code and various other useful functions. Now I'll I've needed was a text editor as well. Now Pages is wonderful software, very good for making nice documents, and I use it just for that, however most of the work I do doesn't need fancy documents, I just need to be able to produce text, and then be able to easily move it around in semantic HTML format. So I've always used Markdown, quick and easy to write, and when you parse it, wonderful clean semantic HTML. If only I had a way to be able to write and edit Markdown on the iPad and export it! Then I discovered [Elements for iPad.](http://www.secondgearsoftware.com/elements/) and I have simply fallen in love. Markdown text editing on the go! Sheer bliss. It's simply become my default text editor for everything now. Wordpress posts, Tumblr posts, written documents (that don't need styling extensively). I am a happy man.

My family loves Munchkin and my kids needed a way to help remember what level they were. So… they got out the Lego bin and made their own board, complete with characters (including a shrieking geek and a few that needed light sabers). It’s made our Munchkin playing even more fun, especially when we get to kick down the door to get to level 10 and raid the little treasure chest!
The Twitter Cycle
Twitter always is a curious beast for me. I always use it in these bizzare fluctuating cycles. It's really odd. Some weeks I'll be all over that social media, browsing, chatting, contributing an inordinate number of coffee related statuses, and then other weeks I'll just occaisonally check and post next to no updates.
I really just can't figure out why, but I think more than anything it comes down to effort. Organising and managing Social media is a gargantuan task, and I can understand why some companies have entire departments dedicated to the task of simply bringing it all in line and in order.
Fortunately there are at least a bunch of services that make life easier for people, like HootSuite and Buffer (My personal favorite). But even with tools like this, I still find it so difficult to stay on top of the pile.
I wish it could be easier.

Side Projects are fun
There is something nice about starting a side project when you have a low load of work on. it gives me an opportunity to keep my mind excersized and my brain active when the work is flowling slowly. There is a certain joy to bringing your own creative ideas to life as well, instead of simply producing for someone else. It's one of the reasons I am so excited from Project HeartBeat. I want it to succeed but at this point, I'm not fussed whether no-one else uses it but me. If nothing else, It'd give me a huge control panel for various distributed VPS Services, which is exactly what it is supposed to do. One dashboard for multiple services running in many different places. Plus programmatically it's a nice challenge. After all not only am I writing the server side application that will poll connected servers to make sure the server is delivering content, but I also need to set up a system for the end point servers so they can receive instructions in a neat fashion. To me, that's fun. A Lot of fun. All the best, David
