So, the writer had been wrong. I had ended up at the wrong 'Mudhol' looking for a certain breed of hounds called by the same name. I figured soon that the Mudhol that takes the credit for the origin of these hounds was the one situated somewhere in northern Karnataka. But, no journey is regrettable really. I found a cheerful old man who passionately showed me around his ancestral home, a building that is at least a 100 years old. We connected, through some strange bond, although dogs weren't responsible for it.

Retiring with a feeling of insouciance I sat under the sacred fig looking for signs of life in the placid waters of the lake. Nothing stirred. There was mostly silence speckled with some human chatter and disgruntled howls in the distance. The granite seat I rested on was still warm as I watched the dust on the village road catch the last rays of the settling sun. 

At Mallappanahalli, Kolar where students and I continued the photography workshop.
