It always tickles me when hockey romance artists draw the boys getting freaky while still in their kit. Let me tell you, hockey locker rooms are foul places, with a stink that could curl your nostril hair (trust me, I worked at ice level in a UK elite league rink for a decade). I know some gay men like to lick each other’s armpits, but surely there’s a line where it comes to months-old, ingrained, stale body juice?

Can someone please enlighten me: when did the societal rules around constructive criticism of fanfic change? I understand that the current rule is, ‘don’t challenge anything, and if you don’t agree with the writer then just disengage’, whereas it used to be, ‘politely challenge and help the writer develop through concrit.’ I’ve seen posts recently about ao3 being populated in the majority by 30yo+ writers; so where did this rule come from? Because I’m sure as shit in the 30+ demographic, and concrit dragged my terrible narcissistic fanfic into something resembling worthy of attention. I welcome concrit with open arms, and I’ve never had a writer who I’ve offered concrit to come back to me with hate; if it wasn’t for concrit I’d still be writing half-baked, under-thought shite.

I kept wondering why the footage of Ilya winning the Stanley cup felt so peculiar. He was so emotional, overly so, and I struggled to reconcile it with the narrative, but re-reading HR it now makes sense. That ‘fuck you’ to his doubters back home was lost on me until now; did it skip by anyone else?
