dan  drops  the  subject  --  he  knows  rorschach  is  telling  the  truth,  in  the  way  he  knows  rorschach.  daniel  has  learned  the  language  of  rorschach,  but  unlike  learning  chess  or  engineering  or  the  mating  call  of bubo virginianus,  the  great  horned  owl,  dan  never  intended  to  learn  this.  it’s  strange,  knowing  that  the  other  man  will  trust  him  with  his  life,  with  his  death  (  and  which  of  those,  to  rorschach,  is  worth  more?  )  and  dan  doesn’t  even  know  what  he  looks  like,  under  the  mask.  how  much  does  that  matter?  the  difference  between  nite  owl  and  dreiberg  is  everything  --  one,  a  modern  hero;  the  other,  a  pathetic  little  rich  boy.  is  the  difference  between  rorschach  and...  whoever-else-he-is  equally  as  wide  a  chasm?
