why is posting art -unappealing- now? what changed...

Rampant AI primarily. It's disheartening to see it dominate art sites. It's even worse to have my time and effort run through AI by strangers who think they can "improve" my work. There's also a certain crowd that seems to think they are entitled to free personalized art.

Low engagement might be another reason. Personal art doesn't get noticed or discussed, and fanart doesn't feel as rewarding to make. Don't get me wrong, I love fanart! I just don't have as much time for it now.

Lastly, I don't like how often my vulnerable art seems to invite people to try to engage with me sexually via unsolicited photos, requests for roleplay, etc.

Since you stopped posting on Deviantart, is Tumblr your main art site now?

I wouldn't say that Tumblr is the main art site... it's more that I haven't been posting much art anywhere. I've mostly just been sharing it with friends now. A lot of what I make is for self exploration and expression, and much of the internet has made posting personal art publicly unappealing. I might get back to a place where I'm less bothered, but for now art is sporadically shared here, pixiv, and deviantart.
